Votes and PMs
« on: July 03, 2010, 08:11:46 am »
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the vote caller is no longer in the vote text, but is instead printed to console, which is rather inconvenient because when you're in an intense battle, you probably will not devote your attention to that stray vote and scroll up in the console to see who called the vote. Often, the vote caller tells a lot about the nature of the vote. Further, it would be nice to be able to define vote reasons in the vote as in the later 1.1 qvms so you do not have to ask, "Reason?" every time a kick vote is called, it is already in the vote text.

Also, for PMs, it does not tell you who the recipients are for the PMs, only the number, which allows the PM to go to people who you wouldn't want to read the PM without your knowledge.

I've submitted a patch for vote reasons on the bug tracker and I guess you're right that the caller of the vote is important when considering its nature, since I always look at the caller when a kick or mute vote is made and I don't immediately know what it is about. What you say about PMs is also true, for instance if I want to talk to my clammates using /m GT, it will also send to anyone with 'GT' in their name, such as chaoslord or iabz. That said, I don't usually say anything I don't want them to hear, but nevertheless.
