I disabled them on US1. There was a bug that allowed partials to work, which was recently fixed.

As far as I'm concerned they will remain disabled on US1.

The boostershrimp highly disapproves.

Can we have the same treatment for EU1 (and perhaps 1.2 code) too?

Wait, do you mean disable them on EU1 and remove them from 1.2 code?

If it's already been turned off, why was the feature even added?

Asvarox

I always thought partial emoticons were a feature. They were kinda handy.

I vote for enabling full emoticons-names-only in names and partials in messages. I'd also like to hear why emoticons in names are disabled in first place.

Aelita

I think it would be better if it was a client side option to turn them on and off. Some people might like them, others may not. Why remove something because only a fraction of the community dislikes it? Please both sides of the argument and give them a little bit of compromise.

David

It makes it hard to ban / kick people.

A name is a name, it's supposed to identify you.  A cutesy little pic doesn't do that.

you should still be able to ban and the console will tell you the name w/out the emoticons but meh its personal preference

The main problem I have with emoticons in names is that they look utterly stupid in the console.

You can use them in chat too. Why not in names then?

You must be new to the internet. If you let people use emoticons in their names, they will surely start using emoticon-only names, which is stupid.
Nothing ever happens.

Oh that cant be denied in any way, im sorry your majesty.

eDIT: Oh, and when they were allowed, many people didnt use them only.

mooseberry

I think it's fine. If you really don't know how to ban someone who has icons in their name David, PM me and I'll tell you how.

There is an option. I believe it is cg_emoticons.

David

I know how to ban someone, it's just when they have a saw in the side of the RC an extra second to double check it's not going to hit someone else and is going to hit the right person is the difference between a destroyed game or not.

When everyone has textual names I can generally spot a 4-5 char string that will hit the person I want, emotes fuck that.

What I really want is an option so everywhere where there is a name it automatically adds the slot number.

+1

Meisseli

It's like the old times, having those UnnamedPlayers and number only names. They were banned just to make kicking/banning fast possible, without having to resort to listplayers.

With listplayers and a high amount of players it will really take time to find the correct nick from the list.

As said, a nick is a cool thing invented to identify you from the others. Don't you want to be cool and have a nick? Don't you want to be remembered as the famous Meisseli instead of  :hive: :reactor: :repeater: :granger: :granger: :egg: :defcomp:?

Circle

Eyecandy is sexy and part of the overall experience. Why not allow emoticons in the name, but leave it as secondary in that it isn't part of the name. Think of having a space name -> that is disallowed. so you can also limit the use of the emoticon. If you are seriously going to nerf it, then time was wasted implementing it, imo.

A cutesy little picture of a medistation could be used to identify me. Sorry, I just had to argue for the sake of arguing =p pay no attention to me.

1/2 the community likes it and wants it on the other 1/2 doesn't like it

why not make the emoticons not add to the 3 letter rule in game code shouldnt be that hard and will fix what david doesn't like about it hell for shits and giggles we all should change to unnamedplayer#(even worse then emoticons)

Options:
1. Make emoticon only names invalid
2. Admins can view the player id when they run their cursor over the player, instead of just their name?
