Can we have something like this in the next Tremulous release? There's 3rd-Person spectating in Counterstrike, and if you've played it, you'd know what I mean.

Maybe that's why it's not in Tremulous~~

Why do you always have to be negative? This is what a forum is for. This is what suggestions are for.

What would be the benefit of a 3rdperson camera for spectators? Besides the fact that it makes Tremulous more like CS, of course.

The fact that it makes it a bit more fun to spectate? In this case, you'd be able to see the enemies around him when he couldn't.

I actually think a 3rdperson cam doesnt allow for good spectating, since you have a distorted view of what the player being spectated sees. You can always record demos and play them back using the 3rdperson view.

Playing demos does not require extra coding.

but that isn't the same as spectating now is it?

I agree with the OP though, it would be a cool addition though not vital. Only real problem would be coding it so that it can't be used by the players vie exploit.

Ok, let's make a short list of the things Counter-Strike has in it, that Tremulous obviously completely ripped off:

- Crosshairs
- Ammo/reload system
- Teams
- Maps with multiple routes
- Rifles
- Shotguns
- Grenades
- Armour
- Helmets
- Radar
- Much, much more

So all we need to do is remove all that ripped content from Tremulous, and it'll be a 100% unique game and Lava will be happy.

Rippy got it wrong, trem is clearly a doom rip off. As it obviously ripped off:

- Ammo
- The ability to shoot things
- Hitpoints
- The ability to die
- Multiplayer
- Pistol, chainsaw, shotgun, plasma rifle, BFG.
- The first person perspective
- Armour
- Helmets
- Walls, floors and cielings
- Aliens

Yeah, but nowhere as popular as Doom was. So I had to pick a game he probably had heard of judging by his post style.

For some it was, but it wasn't mainstream like Doom was.

o_O I like how all you can come up with are cookie-cutter "go die" insults. Never underestimate the power of a little sarcasm to prove a point.

3rd person chase would be cool, but not vital, as mentioned. It'd be really useful as humans, because you could see the alien attacking the guy no matter where the human is facing, etc etc. And it's not like CS trademarked the perspective, there are lots of other games that use it for spectator mode.

In all seriousness, if you consider a perspective to be an immitation of another game, there just isn't much in Tremulous that isn't immitated.

Theres whas a few FPS before Wolf3D (thres even a FPS pacman for Commodore64), but Wolf3D got it right (with textured walls) and fast gameplay (lots of monsters to kill). And of course, most people only know Wolf3D, except morons that think that the first is CounterStrike... or really shit that move that think the first FPS is Halo2.

1984, Supersoft 3D Glooper.

( the image looks graphic, but is actually ascii draw)

system shock 2 was the first hi-quality fps It is still one of the best. If you knew it you know what i mean...  most of the games that came after it was more or less its clones
edit: especially doom3 is a one-to-one copy of system shock 2

Quit spaming my topic please.

Anyway, I'd like Lava to make a comeback to Rippy's logic. Has someone finally out-smartassed Lava Croft?
