More GPP Observations
« on: August 08, 2010, 06:59:55 pm »
:dragoon: Pounce charge: When holding a charged pounce, walking speed for the dragoon doesn't seem that much slower than walking uncharged. I thought there was supposed to be a trade-off, because I've gotten into the habit of walking everywhere with a pounce charged and ready.

:basilisk: Healing: There is a small but annoying hiccup in the healing rate of an alien as it leaves basilisk healing range. Probably about a second, not complaining, just observing. This happens mostly off creep, I haven't asked others if it happens to them.

:barricade: Collapsing: Barricades are now very useful, almost essential, but they are not very friendly towards dragoons and Tyrants. I wish that they would collapse just a little farther, because Tyrants cannot pass through doors that mappers sized to be just big enough for Tyrants in the first place.

Again, nothing serious, just some observations.

You move at 0.75 of your normal speed according to recent code diving I believe. Still the main thing about walking around with a charged pounce is that you have to release said pounce if you want to go really quickly anyways.

I think that's a map feature, and no amount of collapsing short of reducing the bbox height to zero would help in the niveus box room.

Yeah, I love the new :barricade: with the exception of it's potential to block Rants.

It would probably take a lot more work than I realize, but maybe it would be possible to modify the cades so that they only lower proportionate to the size of the alien that is passing through them. So if a Granger were passing through, the cade would lower itself to 3/4s of it's original height where as if a Rant needed to pass through it, the cade would then lower to 1/4th it's original height.

An added bonus would be that the cade could also lower itself in proportion to the number of aliens trying to pass through at once, which would eliminate some of the problems caused by multiple aliens blocking each other when both are trying to pass through opposite sides of a :barricade: at the same time (i.e. The Window Room in Nevius). Goons would still probably block each other but at least we'd have a way to get around those dumb-ass noob Battle-Grangers who just love to block their teammates at the worst possible moment.

Like Battle-Granging wasn't annoying enough already... ;)

That wouldn't work because if the cade lowered for a granger, it wouldn't be able to jump high enough to get over the top of it.  I like the barricade as is.  If it blocks a rant, you shouldn't build it there.

Ah, yes. I didn't really consider the Granger's jump (or lack there of) when I thought of that. Oh well...

Agreed. I'm really just glad that 1.2 :barricade: work at all.

Also, that's just part of the challenge when playing as a Rant:
You've got 350 hp, a 100-point slash, a devastating trample, and a whole lot of junk in your trunk. If you wanna be a bad-ass Rant, you need to learn how to be a fat-ass first.

For me, this would fit well. And to be more precise, the cade sometimes blocks normal grangers on bit elevated door areas, you drop out from your base to fix something outside or accidently drop, only to notice that your base is critically weak at the moment. And of course, everyone is so busy not to help you in. So, bit lower barricade or fixed barricade positions on certain aliens would be nice.

But just my opinion.
