There isn't one single server that's newb friendly. When someone says it is, then I get fried to freaking bits.

WTF is with this??!!
remulous is broken.

.. really skilled noobs?

I'm hoping whenever }MG{ gets a server we can run it for noobs when we don't need it for our own purposes..

But until then.. try to play human until you get the hang of it and take notice of what everyone else is doing.
DO NOT BUILD.

Noob servers are just as bad as any other server when it comes to skill. I know the type of people who are fairly good at the game, but do nothing except rape people on the noob servers.

If you're a noob I recommend you just choose any server with people, get slaughtered your first few games, and learn. By the next day you should at least be able to get the hang of things to get a few frags.

Any new player that has read the manual is welcome on SATGNU.
People asking all kinds of questions they can have easily answered by reading Norfenstein's easy-to-chomp manual over at http://www.tremulous.net/manual, can just stay away, since they mostly annoy other players.

[EDIT] Don't forget these forums when it comes to in-depth information on  Tremulous gameplay mechanics!

You're welcome to play in the Lair.  We get lots of newbies there, and some folks who are pretty good.  Just make sure you talk lots of smack about how good you are and nobody will know the difference.

Me, I suck badly at video games, so I'm always an easy kill.  But I enjoy playing Trem, and it's my server so I can't be kicked.  ;)

if all noobs player play on noobs only server they will ever stay noob since noobs cannot learn from noobs. Or at least they only learn how to play like other noobs.
Play on normal servers and learn from pros. but dont feed to much ^^.

No.. there are loooooots of great tips on the forums!!
In game.. the best you can do is watch other people..
I've learned a bit from just doing that myself, whether its as you try to fight, or in spectator mode.

Nah, that's not how it works. What happens is that once you've provided enough blood sacrifices, a Dark Lord grants you his favour (and you sudenly get better).
nything I do or say is probably extremely stupid, and likely to cause me embarrasment in the future.

I had an idea for some posters in Transit with advice fo n00bs, in the style of WW2 posters.

"If you're text is green,
It can be seen!
If you don't want a spy,
Use the key 'Y' "

etc.

EDIT: I prefer:
"If your text is green,
The Aliens spy,
If it shouldn't be seen,
Always press 'Y' "

I would suggest you just go find a server that has good (low) ping and a decent number of players, and play.  You'll only learn firstly by reading the manual, and then you go to a server and observe and listen to other players pearls of wisdom, and then working out how it's done.  Playing against other noobs won't increase your skill.  You might be able to grasp the basics, but when you play decent players you're out on your ass.

There was somebody on a server a while back called napkin, he was an idiot deconner - and he kept changing his name when we tried to vote-kick him. I hope that wasn't the onee you're describing.

He MUST be a nicklamer, that can NOT be Napkin AFAIK.
(He admins his own server, he won't go deconning on others' :D )

you gotta play with the best to be the best :D  noob servers would just make it harder to get a hold on the game, because no one would understand the game mechanics like base building/transport and all that, so it would be like chickens running around with their heads cut off (or chewed off, for the humans   )

Sorry, I saw this post just now...
We are aware of that problem, but it wasn't Napkin. We were informed like 3 minutes after that lamer began deconing. At that time Napkin was already playing on our server.

This problem is not really new, as several of our members get impersonated on other servers, that don't run TJW's mod.

But that's not what this thread is about .)

@OP
I don't know about other servers, but as long as an responsible Admin is present only those Noobs that have not even read the manual will get some heat as this game is too fast paced to take anybodys hand and show them the basics.

I would play a little by yourself with cheats to get used to moving, jumping, manuvering, weapons, etc.. Then go to a real server presumably without too many people and start playing.
