Just got vote kicked from SST
« on: July 25, 2006, 06:43:14 pm »
I was pretty much ruining the alien team, running alone into their territory, minding my own damn business. Killed 4 or 5 eggs and about a dozen dragoons before s3. We get s3, I get my luci and battlesuit, and some jettard camping in our base shoots me with a few pulse rifle shots; for practice I suppose, jettards usually need it bad.

Well, I pop a few luci rounds at him. Then I go to leave. He then shoots at me again. So I let him have a charged one. He drops. Dead. He sets up a vote kick, I get 12 for and 4 against. Kicked.

Makes me wonder if the alien team wasn't in on it. Or perhaps it was the old "someone set up a vote must be a good reason." I did that a few times. Guess this is karma.

 The guy's name is Lucas
, btw. I hope he's an embarassment to his clan, otherwise they must be a bunch of spamtard n00bs.

Why shoot back in the first place?
I’m busy. I’ll ignore you later.

.. so you tked a guy and he voted you out?... oh no...
You should have voted to kick him instead of shooting at him.. of course when you shoot a big flaming luci at someone up in the air people will see and kick you...

It's me. People intentionally shooting at their own team for no reason other than giggles really offends me, and I make it a point to TK them. There were no aliens in sight, we were both safely inside our base. He's camping on a ledge with no sight of the action, useless. He's obviously being stupid. I just want to cure him of it.

You right about the vote kick. And the obviousness of the luci TK. Just don't know the command, was too lazy to look it up.

I know how annoying it is..
I just hope you see that you were the one who got kicked..
and your the one who is pissed off and not him..
Tking someone will get you kicked no matter why you did it..
The vote to kick option is for solving problems like this.. and you got on the wrong end of it because you joined in...

You can't expect people who saw you drop him with a luci when he was up in the air and there were no aliens around not to try to kick you when he started the vote. The giant luci ball is a lot more obvious than when he shot you i would think.

Heck, sometimes I tk grangers for no reason. They're so fucking annoying... Being at the front lines for no reason, blocking goons and tyrants. Once I teamkilled on out in the open for no reason at all, in the middle of ATCS. He wasn't doing anything important.

Please explain to me how is SST out of control? We make an effort to have the server constantly admined, no matter the cost. I have even taken time out of my own personal life to administrate the server. Infact, I do not see any owners of a server actually on it as much as I am, to make sure that it is properally adminned.

SST is only a new server, less then a month, understand that...and look at how much it has grown. We must be doing something right  :-?

The reason why SST is out of control is not the lack of admins, but rather it's sheer size.
That kind of server is bound to not only attract new players but morons as well. While every server out there is very welcomed, there is nothing good about a 50 slot server.
Never have I joined SST, without being annoyed in the first few minutes of trying to play and get some teamplay going.
I'm not blaming this on you, confess. It's just the nature of large servers.

If you have the resources, why not make 2 or 3 16-18 slot servers rather then a 50.
Just my opinion.
Yelling at team mates since 2006!

I personally love SST.
It does get hard to get to the enemy base, but there is constant action.
However as some admins might vouch unfortunately i'm getting bad lag on there now...  So i'll be taking a bit of a break.. but I don't see anything wrong ith it!

On another note.. there is almost constant
!rename unnamedplayer noob123
or so... can't there just be a way to auto-increment the unnamed player's names?..
unnamed1
unnamed2
seems simple enough... and it will make it easier for the admins.

I love SST as well; it's all I've been playing.  I like the 50 player games, and the popularity of the server shows plenty of other people do as well.  Yup, we get plenty of jackasses on there, but every server I've played on whether big or small get them.  The good thing is that there are plenty of servers for players who like smaller games.

Most of the admins are great. Lucky seems to live there, he kicks griefers, and turns losing team votes to no so the other team can enjoy their victory.  The only one who I've found to be a jerk is Paradox, who abuses his authority.  He TKs people who get in his way, and then boots them if they bitch or start a vote to kick him.  That's a good way to ruin a server.

As far as new servers go, I do not have the money or resources to add anymore. I already attempted that with |SST| Hellfire on the server and its CPU spiked to 70-80%. The only way that I could host more then just one, would be if people where willing to donate money to cover the upgrades.

SST is a very fun server.  It's the kind of server where you don't feel bad for jumping in 35min into the match, and you can still make up evol points :-P

There's always heavy action and it will teach aliens how to deal with spamming.

The downside is that humans seriously camp on that server.  It may be due to the number of noobs, build points, or a combo of factors, but they certainly do camp.  Building massive alien defenses is fun, until not a single humans enter the default base for the entire match.

The renaming there is hilarious, rename Unnamed Player OMGILovePonies still hasn't gotten old to me, though that probably says a lot about me.  I hope we aren't turning off noobs who could end up feeling mocked when their name is changed to something borderline cruel, but I've been killed while laughing at some of the names.

I do feel like a pro on SST, and you can swing a match there if you can successfully wrangle the noob kittens into a strategy, which does work at times.  I'm still no match for the Pro's on akka, or some of the other servers where strategy is a much more central component of the match (I'm improving though ;-)   )

I think there is a place for servers like LA Massive and SST.  They are great servers to refine fighting technique, base building strategy, and base attacking strategy.  The last two I say cause if you can get through a well built base on SST with it's build points, a like base on a standard server will be no problem.

The problem with larger games is everyone will pretty much votes yes in a kick vote automatically.

We cancel all kick votes unless they have a valid reason. Aside from that, the majority of the time, people have started to ask "why", and if they dont give a valid reason, they vote as though they feel.

I'd have to agree that SST has problems.  I won't play on it anymore due to the high newbie content and the lack of reasonable admin work.  I've seen people decon a base, then someone calls a vote, *says why they called it*, and then get the vote canceled.

Also, for all of the 'just vote the TK/deconner out' crowd, voting is not fast enough to prevent the dammage.  One idiot with a construction tool can undo your reactor and telenodes faster than a vote can finish.  God help you if you TK the SOB.  Then, as was said earlier in this thread, *you* get kicked and the deconner/TKer stays.  Great system.  Add to that the instant 'F1' addiction of the people there and you have a server with no good payers and just a bunch of idiot running around.

That's why I won't play SST anymore.  Having an admin around all the time is great.  But, it's not helpful unless they know what they're doing.  Giving someone admin rights doesn't mean they know what to do with them.  I've seen too much admin abuse in the last few weeks.  Admins playing the game, who get killed by a good player a few times will kick/ban that player.  Great.  That's really encouraging people to get better.  Admins who don't play much, but who *pay attention* and *understand the game* like Stasis are a rare breed and we just don't have enough of them to go around.

I love SST for what it is. It allows for *a lot* of new people to get in on some hard action for 35 minutes, without dying or being the sole cause of a lost map, etc etc. Also, keep in mind SST is open because some gracious souls want to create another server in the US ( for a grand total of like 6 US servers ) that they pay for out of pocket. As much as I love a game, I'm not about to fork over my working money to keep [AKKA] running. For this, SST is a great server. It might not have the best players nor gameplay, but one can't deny that theres almost always some action going on with the massive player count.

The main problem I see in this thread is "sheep voting." People see "playerx has killed playerx/ has deconned xxx" and think " oh my god that vote is 100% DEAD ON HE TOTALLY DID THAT." I feel that (that) is unfair in that with the massive player count, not enough people actually see what happens. I know I've KO'd a *lot* of my teammates on humans by spraying down fire from behind my teammate, and some of the time I'm jeered for it, and sometimes I'm appreciated for it  ( Personally I'd much rather take the 200-300-400 credit hit than give an alien a frag, but that's me. ) Unfortunatly, sheep voting is often associated with the newer players of the game; admins cannot be held wholly resposible for every players' vote yes/vote no.

To Edge: Yes, your situation sucks, but I wouldn't take it so seriously. You /have/ to figure that with the sheer number of players, TK ( both intentional and unintentional ) is going to happen, and silly votes are going to happen. If at all possible, use the admin contact thread to notify the admins of your situation, or play on another server until your kickban wears off.[/i]

Hmm . . . kind of makes you wonder about the democratic system . . .

Hope this sheep voting is due to underage gamers.

We could have a system like TJW where we have "server regulars" and make only those people to be able to vote? (Maybe the name would have to be changed to "OK ppl.") There could be another category called "confirmed irresponsible ppl," for people rejected for "server regulars" . People could get out of this category by reinstalling trem, but it would just be a way to make it easier to be sure you have already decided a player should not be a server regular. People without GUID just don't get to vote.

If a teammate is shooting at you but not killing you, do the exact same thing to him. Make him have to go back to base for health, and by then you can be running off to the alien base somewhere.

Also, it's a kick.... you can just rejoin the server, and even regain your creds from before, can you not?
