Keyboard troubles - Gateway 2000

Hey!  I recently installed windows XP for gaming, and Tremulous was the first thing I installed.  When I first started playing, I couldn't hold down more then 3 keys without my computer beeping at me.  I look around, and it seemed like switching keyboards would do the trick.  The only available keyboard that I had to use was a Gateway 2000.  I'm now able to hold down more keys (to the point where it doesn't effect my gameplay), but some of the keys are switched only in Tremulous.  for example when trying to type "/" I instead type "=".  My new keyboard works fine out of game.

Any help would be appreciated,
