Dretch jump while wallwalking ?

I haven't played for a long time, over a year. When I run tremulous one thing surprised me - I realised I cand do a jump with a dretch while wallwalking. I can do that when wallwalking toggle is "on" without wallwalking button pressed. But when I turn off "wallwalking toggle" and try the same with press wallwalk key and then, simultaneously, jump key - it doesn't work. Doest this work for any of You ? I think that some time ago I could do that... Am I wrong ?

Aelita

I frequently make a habit of jumping from wall to wall while wallwalking. (yes, this works fine. please check your keyboard to make sure it isn't a piece of crap).

Not a keyboard (or piece of crap) issue.
I figured out that on my Mac when I press more than 2 buttons simultaneously, the buttons that were pressed 3rd, 4th and so on are discarded.
So, only less than 3 buttons a time work. Here, you held the 'forward', 'wallwalk' and 'jump' buttons at the same time, so the jump one did not work as it's the latest one pressed.
IDK why is that like...that.

I have exactly same issue with my keyboard/whatever, it affects everything (not just trem), but slightly different, I  example when I hold S, F, G and I click Enter, it's discarded, though it works just fine with S, D, G :P . It never bothered me while playing Tremulous, though it's annoying when playing Frets on Fire

I use hold wallwalk. That means I can't jump, but I use my momentum to let me bounce between walls. Its just as good as having the option to jump, with the beneifits of hold wallwalking.

"Not a keyboard (or piece of crap) issue." followed by the epitomic crappy keyboard issue >_>.

Keyboards clump lots of keys together, crappy keyboards have lots of keys in each group.  It's one of the reason people buy gaming keyboards.
The only solution is to get a better keyboard.

superspirality:  Maybe this just means it's time to ask your parents if you can bin the fisher-price "my first pc" and get a real computer.

1) I already did a long time ago.
2) I got an iMac then.
3) A few months ago I bought a PC machine.
4) It still needs a soundcard.
5) I'm going to test if that's happening on my PC machine, didn't play Tremulous here yet but it has a different keyb.
6) Uhm, an Apple Slim keyboard is what I use on my iMac.
7) PROFIT!

Yep, your keyboard's a piece of shit. Most cheap modern keyboards (as David said) use the same data lines for groups of keys. These cheap boards will ignore certain keypresses when holding down groups of keys. A proper keyboard won't have this limitation.

It doesn't surprise me that your Mac has this limitation. As much as I like Apple's gear, they seem to cut corners in the most retarded places (such as HID and often your video card too).

KillerWhale

Yeah, this is a keyboard issue. Note that if you rebind jump to another key, it will probably work. Or, be cool like me, bind jump to mouse2. :)

Gaming keyboards advertise "anti-ghosting", which means that you don't have these issues.
On my G15, I can press 10 keys at a time, and all of them function. Not that this is useful, but it is a demonstration that you can fix this problem with a better keyboard. :P

UniqPhoeniX

This is NOT just a keyboard issue, as it doesn't work even if I bind crouch/wallwalk to LMB and jump to RMB. Note that this occurs only with cg_wwToggle 0. Which is broken in other ways too btw.

David

Does your mouse let you press both buttons at once, or is it crap too?

Haha. I remember my old school macs with just 1 mouse button. I couldn't imagine playing trem without at LEAST 3. Get a new mouse?

UniqPhoeniX

What? Troll, how about you just try it yourself, takes 20sec. My mouse has ~12 buttons and never had any problems pressing any amount at the same time.

Nux

If it has ~12 buttons it's probably a gaming mouse and if it's a gaming mouse it will be made to not suffer from such complaints.

So if I understand this correctly.. dr_Fell fell?

:'( is all I got to say.

benmachine

The wallwalk button is the crouch button. Because of the way jump/crouch works, you can't jump while holding crouch, no matter how good your keyboard is.

I'm playing on MacBook and I CAN jump w/ crouch, also jump off while wallwalking.

Hello. It doesn't seem to be keyboard issue, since I tried different combos, i.e. wallwalk - shift, jump - any other key (which works in other situations, has to) or even wallwalk - shift, jump - mouse button (doesnt work for jump, works pefrectly for any other situation of course). It doesn't seem to be my hardware limitation, so I am really amazed how wallwalk + jump works for some of You... Maybe it's linux issue ? Anyway I am using toggle wallwalk now and starting to get used to it. Thanks very much for all of Your answers.

Actually on humans when you jump from a crouched position it interrupts your crouch causing you to stand.  You have to press jump twice to jump.
If you don't believe me try holding crouch down, then holding jump down, and then releasing jump.  You can actually reverse your standard dodge style, being in a position that forces you to hold jump down for full mobility and causes you to return to crouch position immediately after releasing jump.

benmachine's post settled the whole problem really.

Three solutions:

1. Switch to toggle wallwalk
2. Trem needs to separate crouch and wallwalk (so that you can plug in two commands for the same key, or use team-based .cfgs)
3. Be able to "jump while crouching"
