Voting and not finishing
« on: July 27, 2006, 12:24:17 pm »
The most frustrating thing I've seen whiile playing Tremulous over the last week is the (to my newbie eyes) increase in the number of "change map" votes when a team is close to losing.

It's happened in nearly every game I've played in the last few days -- and it irritates me when I'mon the winning or losing side. Some people just can't stand losing... and it's immensely frustrating to have a game you've played for nearly a hour suddenly restarted or a new map. Is there some way to block this sort of thing?

Yes... but admins often aren't there... and that was feedback on the game. I'm asking if there's anything that the developers can do to help stop this sort of thing -- like making a map change vote require a super-majority instead of a simple majority, or any other modifications to prevent it.

I do it mainly where there is excessive camping, and not when there are just a few Aliens (or Humans, it happens less often) left. Except when it's on Transit and the Human (or Alien...) team is quite thick, and are having trouble killing a few leftover Aliens (or Humans).
I can't wait for ArcDig...  :x

Maybe it should need a 60 or 75% majority for a map change.

Also, I'm not sure if this is the case now, but when a vote starts, everyone's vote should default to no. That way people who don't vote because they're busy don't suddenly find the map changing.

I just miss votes sometimes because i'm busy..
And then fwop.. map change.... wtf..
I just make it a point to press NO every time someone tries to pass a "we are getting beat, so there is no point in finishing" vote oblivious to whether its my team or not...
One possibility is an option for server admins so that they can maybe weight the votes for each player based on kills (Since thats the only real measureable thing)... that way if its just some people who are hopelessly getting killed and want to wimp out on the map they can't ruin the game for the rest of the players. This also will help weight it against people who just joined since they will have few kills.
The thing is the loosers are usually sitting around their base with nothing better to do than vote since they aren't trying to fight the enemy, while the winning team is tied up with actual winning.

That would be a good way to do it. Although then all you need to do is, at the very start of the game, get 3 kills before anyone else gets any, then change the map, or kick whoever you want. If a player had more kills than the rest of the players, (happens in small servers) he could pass any vote.

Correction: Only play on those server that have admins, preferable admins you can contact. SST just has too many players to handle for just one admin.
