Adv.Goon Pounce Trouble
« on: September 25, 2010, 08:05:38 pm »
I've been noticing that the pounce fails far more often for the advanced goon than the regular one. I might be talking out my ass, but I think it has something to do with the bounding-box increase. It just seems like you have to aim perfectly to register a pounce, not like with the red dragoon, where any hit goes. Has anyone else been experiencing this?

for reference:

Code: [Select]
Dragoon
    both
base bite range reduced 96 -> 72
base pounce range reduced 72 -> 54
pounce width reduced 16 -> 14
pounce charge time increased 700 -> 800
pounce never damages teammates/friendly structures, even with friendly fire on
pounce now does knockback
can no longer bite while pouncing
the delay after pouncing and being able to bite (400ms) now applies after landing instead of after hitting
      regular
bite repeat increased 700 -> 900
      advanced
available at stage 2
bounding box reduced 64x64x67 -> 58x58x66
model scale reduced 1.25 -> 1.15
advanced bite and pounce range increased to compensate bounding box increase over regular dragoon (+3 to regular values)
bite repeat increased 600 -> 800
regen increased 7 -> 7.5
barb changes
repeat increase 1000 -> 1200
regen increased 10000 -> 15000
splash radius increased 0 -> 75

I was experiencing similar Adv. Dragoon pounce-fails for a bit, as well. My theory had to do with the Adv. Goon's faster pounce speed... At least I think it has a faster pounce, or is it just longer? Assuming that both Goon pounces take the same amount of time to complete after a fully-charged launch, wouldn't that mean that the Adv. Goon's pounce would have to be faster to travel a greater distance? Maybe I should just check the source...  Anyway, I thought maybe the quicker pounce was simply throwing off my timing after spending most of s1 swipe-pouncing with my regular-ass Goon's slightly longer window before contact. Though if you're not a swipe-pouncer, then this really won't apply to you.

Side Note:
"Swipe-Pouncer" sounds like a type of rapist. But that's actually quite an accurate assumption. If you've ever played against a really good swipe-pouncer, then you know what I mean.

Some pounces also fail because the pounce hit detection uses radius/a sphere around the player bbox that is too small to cover the corners. At the same time the hive and zap chain use a box shaped detection area...
