If you want to use dodge easily and effectively....

I never used dodge and my friend always said it would benefit me if I did so.
Eventually, months later I realized there is a button on the side of my mouse that isn't being used.
I bound the side mouse button to dodge.
Now goons and such are not as deadly,
I'm playing better and such.
All I do is press the mouse button with any effort,
then move left, right or backwards and finally finish off whatever was trying to kill me or do some creative retreat:)
Most mice have them, if not you should be able to get one for under $20.
Yes I know my kill ratio is terrible,
(I have very bad lag spikes, I need to know when not to play trem)

Thanks but at times I wish I would haven't known of trem because it's addicting and can suck your time away if your not careful  :o

What's the key that you bound? I can't find it.

(That sounds like a good idea.... >.>)

IMO, what makes a skilled player is one that doesnt use the auto dodge feature.  I just bound all my arrow keys to boost as well as move.  Anyways, its cool to use it, but even cooler to go without it :)

That's like saying its cool to win at chess without using your rooks! Yea, I guess its a nice accomplishment if you can pull it off, but you're neglecting one of your most useful weapons.

I disagree.  1.1 was fine without the dodge button.  Anyways, imo, its like playing with 2 queens.  Being able to jump back that far is cool for newbies, but i definitely think more experienced players should learn to play without it.

Learn to play without it? How about using it well. This is a video game where you are supposed to kill the enemy and not die. You decide it's not your style, fine. But why should people with skill not use it?

Honestly I would have stagnated if I didn't use dodge,
I would have barely gotten better unless I clocked in tons of time!!!

Because it's annoying on alien when you have a human at 4hp, and suddenly they jump backward 50 feet.  I think it's an easily debatable addition to the game, and should be used, but if you learn to play without it, then think of how  much better you'll be with it, if you decide you really need it.

What? It's debatable whether or not it is a good addition, but how does that make any sense? If you practice with anything you become better at it. So obviously if you learn how to play well and learn how to use dodge, you will be better than someone who has the same skills aside of dodge and than suddenly tries to use it... Not sure what you're trying to articulate here, but I think the point is you don't like its addition.

I really find that dodge really works well in 1v1 situations, but if there is more than one alien, you tend to dodge into aliens who sneak up behind you and die.

I read that with proper grammatical sense and laughed. It's true though.

The dodge creates what is essentially the same effect, by the aliens' perception, as knockback and its effects. Should you dodge in a certain way, you set yourself up for even just a decent player to get in easy hits on you because you lose control. Yet if you dodge the right way for the occasion, they end up requiring detrimental amounts of time in order to reengage. You can see the same thing kinda if you fuck up when you hit someone with pounce and they don't go where you expect.

Tried the MOUSE4 bind. Didn't work. I like my S bound dodge. So I can ultra back peddle. Try it sometime.

I have buttons 4-7 bound to things like medkit, shotgun, grenade vstr, and itemtoggle blaster.  The medkit on the mouse is really useful.

Dodge is here and it's for balance.
I am using it because of this, I reached my peak now with dodge I can go further.

Just make a toggle dodge vstr.

I don't like using it.  If I did, I'd bind it to space bar with my jump that way I could still jump forward, but backwards and site would work.

No I mean, it didn't work for me personally. I don't like it compared to my S bound dodge.

:-\

The trick (which you already know) is to maintain your cool, plan for the worst, and hope for the best. If you pounce some naked and he doesn't die then assess the situation rapidly. You have absolutely no time to fuck up and needlessly soak bullets.  :P

Also I've found that when dretching, dodge can actually be ineffective, because the 'piece-by-piece' frag system that aliens have makes it possible for you to bite-and-hide without feeding innumerable roaches. ;) Honestly aliens are pretty well adapted to crushing tons of human ass, but only through a largely conservative play-style. :basilisk: Teamwork is even more effective on the alien team then the human team, despite how it may appear at times. :o Aliens that consciously and actively work together for the feast will be happily rewarded. Whilst dumb asses -- who want to show off their dancing skills -- will rush the humans head-on, and decorate Tremulous with their gristle:(
