You can get a server running with just the stuff you downloaded.  Look through the forums for more specificity.

You can run a small server on a 500MHz PII with 900Mb of ram (for about 6 gamers, maybe more)

The most important thing is bandwidth, my 384k upload can handle about 6 gamers (can be laggy at times, but it's playable).  Beyond that it gets bad.

It's built on the Quake3 engine, so if you look around for info on setting up/tuning a quake3 server, most of it should apply.

Anyways, in the install directory, check base/server.cfg
read through it for even more info

If you only have one computer at home, with a slow upstream (slow upload speed to the internet), then you will most likely not be able to set up a proper server for tremulous.
if you have a relatively sufficient computer (see above post), and if you also have a fast upload capabilities (at least 10kb/s for each player that joins the game), and if your computer is connected to the net 24x7, then you are ready to go. However, if this is not the case... then maybe you are better off playing on servers in australia, because players like playing on the same server, and they will run away if  your server is either laggy (=not enough upload capabilities, or bad isp) or if your server is not available all the time.

You mean you want to RENT a server in New Zealand??
If you have the spare parts lying around and a decent connection you might want to try running your own.. I don't know about renting in NZ.. but i really don't see any NZ servers anywhere that often that i know of.. so.... my bet it isn't going to be easy to find a host close by.
