Now, you see, textures and particle effects don't needlessly fuck over balance or game dynamics. Of course achievements don't have to, they could do nothing but provide onscreen feedback, but that renders them pointless and irritating. Maybe you guys could add this as a shitty mod, infact, surely there must be a 1.1 mod to provide achievements already.
And there is my point. What about textures and effects make them anything other than pointless? That's extremist, of course. We all know that they serve a purpose: to better the
feel of the game and not the game play itself.
I agree that achievements, if anything, should be objective-based, visible only to the individual, and purely graphical to avoid any issues with balance or camping, and rather provide a little incentive to get out of the base. Something to better the
feel of Tremulous. I intended to offer an alternative to the bonus credits idea, as I think that would severely warp balance, truly giving the better (individual) players more power (and though all games reward the rich in a sense, it's something that I think should be avoided if possible).
I think a mockup would make this thread a lot more interesting.
