What if they were there just for fun? They don't carry over per game, they are not recorded anywhere, it is just a "feel good" moment in game.

What's wrong with staging up in the usual way? How does giving the strongest player's team an added bonus help to improve the game? How does handing bonuses to the players that need them least make any sense?

Now, you see, textures and particle effects don't needlessly fuck over balance or game dynamics. Of course achievements don't have to, they could do nothing but provide onscreen feedback, but that renders them pointless and irritating. Maybe you guys could add this as a shitty mod, infact, surely there must be a 1.1 mod to provide achievements already.

And there is my point. What about textures and effects make them anything other than pointless? That's extremist, of course. We all know that they serve a purpose: to better the feel of the game and not the game play itself. I agree that achievements, if anything, should be objective-based, visible only to the individual, and purely graphical to avoid any issues with balance or camping, and rather provide a little incentive to get out of the base. Something to better the feel of Tremulous. I intended to offer an alternative to the bonus credits idea, as I think that would severely warp balance, truly giving the better (individual) players more power (and though all games reward the rich in a sense, it's something that I think should be avoided if possible).

I think a mockup would make this thread a lot more interesting.

Some servers already have a custom QVM for that.

True, but those servers also have a lot of other stuff changed beyond just adding achievements. Further, none of them are on GPP.

I think achievments would be cool, if only to gauge your skill level. They'd be an addition to Tremstats, and they'd echo in console when you got one. Other than that, they would just be bragging rights.

if the achievements were per match then i might be able to see this working, Unnamed-player1 is god of grenades, unnamed-player2 is dretch master though i doubt anyone would care. I do think that # of kills needs to be brought back to 1.2 i like the score too but killing 1-2 acid tubes early on gives you a huge point boost and it makes the numbers meaningless, though once again not a huge deal it really is cosmetic

I like the idea of Achievements. Although they would have to be things that give players incentive to get out of their base and play. They can't be things that can be won by camping or anything like that.

I know If I could see my name beside a little picture of a trophy at the end of the match, it would make me play more and harder to try and achieve that. Plus, I think it would make the game more fun  :laugh:

I like the new scoring system too, but I still wish I could see how many kills I had. :-\ something like /mystats that only I could see would be nice. :)

I wouldn't really say so as a person who kills RC gets something along 1/6 less score than a person killing an unpowered, unused old human base.

As I'm not really into scores, I liked the old system since you could estimate the opponent team's staging up a lot better than now.

I like the scores, but I do feel that the basi should get point similar to a granger for healing and stuff...not sure how the would work, but you know...he is a valuable member.
