I (censored) HATE (censored) dependecies {dealt with}.
« on: July 29, 2006, 05:23:55 am »
***WARNING: I'm not a peak functionality at the moment so I'm probably saying stupid things and stuff***

I'm sick of dealing with dependecies. I'm runnign Fedora 5, I've downloaded GTKRadiant 1.4 and dealt with the first dependency problem it came up with (libgtkglext-x11-1.0.so.0). Now I've gt another:

./libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found

I tried using yum search, but I haven't succeeded in finding anything (haven't tried any of the testing type repos though).

There doesn't appear to be any list of dependecies on or linked to in this forum, so I'm wondering if any of you would be willing to create one for me (so I know how many hurdles I've got left).

What would also be nice is if someone would give me links to safe RPMs I can use instead of me tryng for ages and and ending up giving up anyway.
nything I do or say is probably extremely stupid, and likely to cause me embarrasment in the future.

Maybe you can create a chrooted installation of debian or ubuntu or gentto, and apt-get or emerge what you want. I use a chrooted ubuntu for compatibility with stuff still on 32 bits on a AMD64 machine.

never failed me yet.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I'm not much of a Linux user (mainly cause I use Windozzze) but try rpmfind.net

Apart from the stuff the others wrote...why tf are you bitching about another software on this forum? Go to gtk-radiant-forums and tell them.

Because this is where I came across the software and this game is what I want to use it for. Plus, I was even less functional then than I am now (got up not long ago).

I should have searched pbone and stuff, I was just... meh, can't be bothered ('specially due to risk of the 'emo' tag).

EDIT: If you want me to look on the GTKRadiant site, give me a link.

EDIT2: Searched pbone and rpmfind. No luck.

EDIT3:

I think I'll look into that. Whether I try it or not is a different matter.

EDIT4: I might just resort to using windows for it. Or not bothering any more. My experience so far when I've asked for help with just about anyhting has been that I rarely get anyhtng much which actually helps me.

EDIT5(): Got 1.5 working. Manually deleted /usr/local/games/gtkradiant and /usr/local/bin/radiant .
nything I do or say is probably extremely stupid, and likely to cause me embarrasment in the future.

If you can't find a link for this on yourself, how do you think you could build a good map? That's pretty much harder than using google. Actually, it's the damn first hit when you search for "gtk radiant" or "gtkradiant" or stuff. Geez.

But congrats if you got it working anyways.

Yeah, I know, 'cause I did make use of google. Me saying something probably means I shouldn't have said it.

This thread show what usually happens when I ask for help: I ask, I get some slightly useful replies (or none at all), plenty of replies which don't help, then either I give up or I eventually figure it out myself.

Well, honestly, i'm not answering you to make you feel dumb or something, i'm answering you to help you.

If you only get bad or ironic answers, you should probably overthink your questions. If you ask something that's covered in the faqs or something that you could solve on yourself you don't have to wonder why you get bitchslapped. We like to help, but only people who help themselves.

PS: this could be a good place to start with. And of course you should not miss that.

I didn't take it that way.

I didn't mean just here, I meant whereever I have asked for help.

I usually only ask for help when I can't do whatever it is myself, when I created this thread I was really sick and tired of dealing with the problems assosiated with getting (certain) things working on GNU/Linux. If you throw in lack of sleep and stuff, you get me asking for help.

In future I think I'll try to just figure stuff out myself, or just give up. (This isn't solely due to or to do with this forum, it is a gereralised decision I have come to).

P.S. I think along the way I looked at the 1.4 readme and checked that I had all of the dependecies mentioned. Didn't fix the problem though. And installing 1.5 didn't, in a way, fix the problem, only bypassed it.

Anyway, from now on I'll try to keep my mouth shut in even more areas of life.

EDIT: just re-read my OP, I DID state that  Iwas probably asking stupid questions.

EDIT2: I've come across that first link elsewhere (not given to me), though I don't think I read it at all at the time. I've had a glance through it, and I think that although I didn't hit 'super uber 1337' question asking, I at least wasn't a complete 'n00b being an idiot and demanding unreasonably things'.

You might find this useful. Here's a quote with the most relevant (in my opinion) parts highlighted:

No, but you demanded things from us that are almost totally unrelated to the stuff this forum is about. And you didn't try to help yourself, at least not through googling your error message or a helpful forum for your problem. Instead you came here and made us do your job.

I think I did actually try googling, though I might not have mentioned it here. Faceless people insulting me over the internet doesn't affect me much, I don't care what some idiotic twelve year old I'll never meet thinks of me (I'm not intending to imply that anyone here is, its just that they appear to be extremely common). And I did read that link. There wasn't really anything much there that was new to me.

Also, I'm of the opinion that software essential for making maps in this game DOES have SOMETHING to do with mapping for this game. Maybe I should have asked somewhere else, but if this was a very nice comunity someone would have at least said "You might have better luck if you asked {link to place}" (having just checked, I see that GTKRadiant doesn't have a set of forums, so I can't have that as the link).

Yes, I'm a complete fucking idiot with less intelegence than the chair I'm sitting on. I'm uglier than a dretch fresh from a meatgrinder. I'm a complete fucking failure, and I'm not even old enough to have a full driver's licence. And I get tired of struggling with shit.

My apologies if I have caused annoyance or whatever. As I've said several times, I'll just never ask for help again (due to past experiences).

EDIT: Someone really clever will probably come in and say "u emo feg111 lol" or something, but I don't fucking care. And I'm far more metal in look.

EDI2: Thought I'd better mention this due to there being variations in laws over the world: where I live, you can't get a full driver's licence untill you're 21 years old.
nything I do or say is probably extremely stupid, and likely to cause me embarrasment in the future.

geez...who cares about all that stuff? If you'd stopped arguing some posts ago we'd maybe think: mmh...he asked a dumb question but now he learned his lesson. Seems to be a good guy. But as time passes you only show more and more that you are just a guy without driving license who takes everything personal and gets frustrated by reading stuff on the internet. Maybe if he grows up he'll learn to cope with that. Maybe not. i couldn't care less.  :turret: :repeater:

Read stuff on the internet isn't what gets me frustrated, its having to go to lots of trouble to get stuff working. I don't think I've taken anything here personally. I'm just a completely stupid fucking idiot. And, yeah, I should have stopped ages ago. In fact, I should really stop saying anything, anywhere, in any way or form.

It's more other things* which have been causing me to respond like that. Please, people, don't be so egocentric as to think you're the sole cause of my reaction.

Everyone has a life outside of the forum.. i assume.. YOU don't seem to realize that.. You bring your problems in here it isn't our place to worry about them.. its what we see that is what we can react to. You are words on the screen, so don't act like your owed anything because you have a tough time outside of the forums. A lot of us do, and we deal with it...
and if you don't you'll hear about it.  Seriously.. that link stahl posted was golden.

Yeah, maybe I will.

EDIT: What you don't seem to realise is that I'm aware of just about everything you've been telling me. I might suck at applying it, but I am aware of it.

My life isn't really bad (I freelly admit that), there are far worse situations to be in. But a (relatively) stable life with food and shelter != excellent, always happy life.
