Structure sizes
« on: December 16, 2010, 07:17:41 am »
At the moment I can't use my pc, but in the mean time I'm trying to thoroughly plan a few maps, but I need some measurements of buildings. Can someone please tell me the size human and alien buildings need in units using grid size 4? e.g rc might (I don't know) need a square of 14x14 units using the grid size 4.

Thanks.

Dunno why you need it. Tremulous maps should have enough place for structures. Place them in editor with a bit additional space around. You can find sizes experimental way (make small map, and place-compile-check. Or you can try find tremulous source files and check for values there.
I think those values was posted here on forum time ago too... Try use search.
In any case when u maing map sometime you need player sizes. Here: http://tremmapping.pbworks.com/w/page/22453203/Tremulous-Player-Sizes

I can't use my pc to experiment right now, this is why I am asking (from my iPod). I need the sizes of buildings so I can:
A) get placement right in the plans.
B) size rooms appropriately, I have 1 room imparticular which only has 1 entry (a storage room). Because of this I want to size it and place props inside in a fashion which makes it un-ideal for bases so as to prevent a 'window room'.

You can always place 'nobuild' shaders there. =)
Or make the ceilings low enough that it was impossible to place the reactor/overmind.

In any case - try search on this forum, seems i saw topic with those values somewhere here.

UPD: Quick search gave me this: http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=1496.0
Im not sure about values correct or not... For 1st look it seems they are ok. Just divide them on 8 for [4]-key gird and enjoy. =)

If you take a look inside 'data-1.1.0.pk3' in the folder 'overrides/buildables' those text files tell you the extents of the bounding boxes/hit boxes.

Thanks for the help guys :) I reckon I got everything I need now.

@CATAHA I would prefer that there was a reason for not being able to build there for realism rather than a magical reason :) I have decided to leave the door open and make it too cramped for reactors, overminds, armorys and stuff.
