-I often encounter ppl that call a dretch-player a cheater if he kills you in one bite/shot.

Explenation 1:

A headshot does 98 damage, if you got just ONE bullet by your team-mate with ff on, you die of it!

Explenation 2:

If a dretch jumps, it has no air control. It flies up to your head, and then is blocked by your hitbox, so it drops on the floor on a STRAIGHT LINE, so it gets a FREE ankle bite on landing (5 damage)

98+5=103 = DEATH


-Another one is how a "naked" human can survive an TYRANT-swipe (often called cheaters also).

Explenation:

If the tyrant hits your ARM (the human spins in combat, its not an static target you know) it does less damage (about 80 i think) so you can survive that.
With lamour you can even survive 2 swipes like this.

Headbit does 96 damage, and I have my doubts about the arm since iirc there's only a head-. body- and leghitbox. No seperate arms. L armour can survive one or two bodyswipes, don't know exactly, but doesn't prevent headshots.

thank you very much for this. Only a few corrections (without guaranty, of course):

* a dretch bite does 48 dmg, headshot doubles that, so it should be 96 dmg.

*afaik human damage doens't differ between torso and arm. It's 50% of the damage when legs are hit, 100% for torso, and 200% for head. So maybe if a tyrant (100dmg with claw) hits your legs, you'll survive ;)
With larmor you take between 25 to 40% of the "naked"-damage, with helmet 30% (only at head) and with bs 20% of normal damage.

another cause of mysterious and frustrating tremulous incidents is bad ping.  While 150 ping isnt going to bug you too much as a human, as an alien it can mean the difference between a headchomp and a complete miss.  For all you players out there who manage to outdance a tyrant with a shotgun... it helps if their ping spikes over 200  :wink:

Once, I joined a game as human (so I was obviously naked) and our base was getting rushed by tyrant.

Cool isn't it?

The tyrant clawed me, and I actually survived. With 65 HPs ! So that makes 35 damage on a naked human. Explenation?

1) You had light armour

2) Tyrant's 100 damage was reduced to 70 since you had light armour and he hit you in the legs:
  100 - (0.3 * 100) = 70

3) Tyrant's damage was reduced to 35 just because you were a human and in got hit in the legs:
  70 - (0.5 * 70) = 35

The moral of the story: Let's have a fair fight, no clawing below the belt!

1) You had light armour

Just out of curiosity...

How can you be certain you hit it straight on?
- a dredge runs faster than the luci-blast
- the blast is so bright one can not see anything through it

i got a demo of somebody getting hit by a tyrant and only getting 7 points, no clue where it hit because it was in the back.

wearing Bsuit, can you explain that?

The other thing people NEED TO KNOW: the server DOES NOT always register the same hits that your PC does. Sometimes you'll hit that hitbox dead on with your mass driver or luci, but by the time the server receives that information, it may have deemed that you missed the hitbox. And so, though you see the blood and/or other effects appear on your victim, he does not receive damage.

Moral of the story, for any fps game: damage effects, such as blood/sound, guarantee only that your PC thinks you hit the hitbox, and does not influence what the server thinks. Remember, ping is measured in miliseconds (to my knowledge), so with a 200ms connection, the enemy hitbox has 0.2 seconds to move away from your bullet's trajectory in order for the server to count it as a miss.

All tremulous devs have to do is include antilag in a future release.
This would make ping accuracy errors disapear and would improve gameplay on both sides.

Many other FPS games have it for this reason (including Nexuiz, mind you  8) )

antilag is not the solution to everything. imagine the following scenario: you are playing on a server where you get a latency of 250ms, you see a goon go around a corner, you charge up your luci, go around the corner and fire, by the time the goon's computer registers that you are in front of him, the first shot has hit and you're halfway through charging the second.

Anilag can be tweaked to reflect type of gameplay or the game.
This has been done in Nexuiz, with great results.
I'm not a programer so I'm not sure what such a task would entail, but I've experienced it done extremly well in certain FPS.
Nexuiz includes a number or rapid fire weapons as well as various others yet there hasn't been one case of "I went around the corner and still got fragged" to my knowledge.

Maybe a similar feature could be implimented that would meet the needs of Tremulous weapons and game style.

Youd say a Luci cannon but well in the process of trying to charge up to get that one hit kill your already dead.

because you didnt Rapid fire because people think its spam when its an essential Rapid fire Lucy isnt spam Humans need it to Keep Aliens At bay to keep them Scared to open the door cuz with out it there free to walk right in and do as they please.

Rapid fire lucys not so lame as a single human cant rape a alien base just spamming lucy cannon shots cuz the grunts gotta get to the base first using up Ammo as it trudges through the endless waves of dretches..marauders goons ect.. by the time it gets to the aliens base its a free blaster weilding kill unless the grunts used tact and followed a SMART! battle suit with a chaingun or something like that ..by smart i mean Actually trying to defend the lucy Weilder insted of keeping to its own meaningless agenda.


(in a heated game mind you 10+ on 10+ ..smaller games under 5 per team rapid lucy is lame i agree)

You're putting too much importance on 1-hit kills. It's not about how many 1-hit kills a team is getting, it's the TOTAL number of kills. And, since that comes out pretty even for both teams, obviously killing in one shot isn't that big an issue.

The reason why aliens can't be killed quickly (apart from the early ones which rely on speed) is because they have to receive damage as they close the gap between themselves and the human before being able to attack. The humans don't need to spend time "closing the gap", so they don't have, nor need, an hp boost.

Note: a painsaw deals 200 damage a second, by the way. Which is enough to kill any s2 and under alien in 1 second, and s3 aliens in 2 seconds.
