A YT-channel dedicated to Tremulous tactical issues.
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:20:03 am »
Hooray, I finally resolved my hardware-problems! So I felt free to put my first Trem-video online in a channel dedicated to Tremulous' tactical issues. I hope it finds your approval:

I have retired from Tremulous. Definetely. If you play a game just because it has become a habit, but u'r only feeling like a kindergarten teacher - well, maybe I am just getting too old (hell, I was a teenager when DukeNukem3D was *new*) - it's probably not a bad idea to just let it be. And I do.

Don't take this personally. Have fun, guys.

Entertaining videos. Here are my thoughts:

The atcs video would have been better if the aliens didn't just fold so quickly under pressure. The human team seemed ok but the alien team didn't. It would have been better if it was a longer game where aliens were able to attack the human base to show how good base building affects the game also better alien classes than dretches would really show the importance of teamwork.

Tremor favors humans heavily and it's probably the reason they won the game. The alien base is very hard to defend on that map.

The transit video was a little silly because it was so small scale. Normally aliens win on that map because humans can't handle egg spam and the long distance to the alien base. If there were more players it would have been completely different. Even if it was meant to just prove some points I would have preferred a proper high player count game.

Nice videos with lots of good tips to beginners.
However:
That speedbuilding on transit is not saving you any time if your previous buildable finishes before you place the next one. Get build binds (if you don't already have them) and *plan ahead* to do it significantly faster. Strafejumping can help a little too. Tho if you still can't place a buildable before the previous one finishes, it might be better to just stay alive.
Saw vs dretch: you need to move around more, standing still makes you extremely predictable. Also chase the dretch and try to not lose sight of him (don't let him go straight over you for example, when he is coming at you, step to the side).
In transit box room you wasted time going around the long way (and still took falling damage) when attacking with saw. You can walk off the boxes without taking fall damage, don't need to use jet there either.
Get used to reloading with the reload button and not by emptying your clip, and try to predict when the enemy is going to die so you can waste less ammo.

2nd Tremor game: building in the back hall is, and has always been, a bad idea.

The Niveus base wasn't "perfect": all (~4) eggs should be on ceiling at s2, no acids on ground, 2nd booster at top, and the barris at OM are usually not worth it since they cover less than half of the OM from humans already inside (tho they are much more useful against blocking grenades and saws). The backup egg should not be on the slope since that can easily be shot from below.

NEVER SURRENDER. Don't rush straight at the humans, and stop feeding. If they don't come in you don't have to attack them. It is possible to defeat a more organized team by getting some of your own team to work together as well. They are likely to make a mistake (or have 1+ newbie feeder on their team), you just need to find their weakness and exploit it.

2nd Tremor game: building in the back hall is, and has always been, a bad idea.

In 1.2, I find it quite useable, because the “old location” next to the box next to the entry to the main human default room doesn't work anymore because it's way too easy to zap and 1.2-turrets need spinup time and fast moving aliens easily can outmaneuver them, something which is not the case in the back hall. Also, one or two humans camping on the backup-armoury or the reactor can take down almost anything that comes without too much trouble,… personally, I made good experiences with that kind of base, but this may be because I have not yet managed to build a better base on another location.

Hm, this goes off topic, better discuss this another time another thread.

However, there is always dispute amongst experts 8) and I recently uploaded a video where two camps almost camped each other to death.

Btw, I have a newly installed system here (I always do when the main harddrive is about to die), I don't know when I will be able to record again, there are some good points made in this thread, good suggestions for other how-tos, or, more likely, how-not-tos ;)
