Linksys Port number?
« on: August 03, 2006, 09:08:00 pm »
Is there a port that i can use for my Linksys WRT54G (and if so, tcp, udp, or both) to allow me to create a server without it having to be dedicated? I've tried 30720 UDP and 30720 both, but neither worked... oh ya, and i use windows.

please dont respond with "just get linux" because i just know someone is going to -.-

Just get linux.  It will solve all of your problems.  J/K.

Quake3 usually uses 27960 through 27960/udp (Trem isn't rocking the boat on this one, right guys?  I'm at work and don't have an install around, so I had to look it up on good ol' wikipedia.  Yes, I'm actually getting stuff done.)  Anyway, trying setting the router to forward those ports to the machine you want to use as the server.  Should work either dedicated or not.  You should only need to do UDP, and not both.

ok, thanks... lol

i'm trying that rite now to see it anyone actually joins my server =p

but anyways, does allowing the correct port make it so people can see my server in the list? or is that only way to join is through direct IP.. which would be gay. lol, i'd be goin around like, "oh, here's my ip, come play on trem" and "my ip is sexy use it to join my server"

Trem only needs udp 30720 both up and down. You also have to set server variable called "dedicated" to 2 (to make a public server) and execute server.cfg (if using from command line).

I'm running tremulous on a linux box, and my firewall is set up like this:

Allow incoming UDP port 30720, and incoming UDP port30710.
(I am not sure whether 30710 is required, I guess I gotta read some docs some day.)
However, *all* outgoing traffic is not blocked by my firewall.

Hmm, actually trem needs outgoing 30710 too, for sending heartbeat to master.tremulous.net. Just let trem connect to any port ;).
to run trem server in win: goto start -> run (or winflag + R) -> write "cmd" and press enter (without "s) -> enter trem dir using cd command; "cd c:\program files\tremulous" (change dir if needed) -> write: "tremulous +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg"
