Sense for gravity for Alien wallcrawlers
« on: August 04, 2006, 01:17:34 pm »
Hi!
I played Aliens for some time now and have one major problem:
When I crawl on the wall or ceiling, Tremulous pushes my view around a lot. It automatically moves my view even if I only crawl over a small wall-feature(small pipe, etc).
This disorients me much usually. Sometimes I am not able to find the floor or ceiling anymore, because I sit in a somewhat dark edge (alien ;) ) and when I move I automatically am "attached" to another wall or small feature and thus only turn around.

My suggestion: Add a sense for gravity to the aliens, so they always know where down is. This could eg. be achieved with an arrow pointing down when the alien is in wall-crawl mode. (Like the damage direction indicator.)

That is not a solution for this 'problem'.

I think it is, the other one sits between monitor and keyboard

Wow. How do you type if the keyboard is behind you?
If you don't mean the person, uh, well.. what then?
I certainly don't sit between my monitor and keyboard. It's kinda cramped in there.

its called flesh, and if you are as blind as I am  (~20cm from monitor) that includes not only hands, but also a head, all made of flesh .. mmm flesh

Where is the floor?

I think the better you forget where is "down" the better you move. You need to think 3D, not 2D.

I don't put my hands between my monitor and keyboard (or my head), or any other flesh. Because i put my hands ON the keyboard, it's hard to go between it and the monitor.
Anyway, when I play alien, i don't really have a need to know what down is.

You want a 'Gravity Compass'. Eg its a triangle that always points downwards on the HUD. It would be a handy thing to code in the next release of Trem.

Everything that DevUrandom needs is the auto-wallwalk pitching option that can be found from menu.
