sparkly glowy corpses
« on: May 21, 2011, 06:32:50 am »
When a player dies, the corpse sticks around for a while, then it sinks into the floor and disappears. This can look pretty silly if someone dies up on a ledge, because you end up with a corpse sinking through the air.
I would like to see human corpses turn transparent before they disappear (the same shader as a structure that is building.) This would be to represent that the reactor is reclaiming valuable nutrients from the corpse so it can manufacture more clones. (see, this idea is realistic)
Aliens get their nutrients from creep (and human blood) so they don't need to be reclaimed, but you could avoid the floating corpse thing by having them explode like an :egg:
It wouldn't change the gameplay, I just think it would be super cool! And realistic! Realistic realism in alien human carnage ftw!

You might wanna watch out for demanding changes in realism or demanding changes in general. >.> I know what you're talking about, but is it really worth coding that just for the rare instances where you're around a ledge and a human corpse falls through it?

i like the idea much, especially the alien "explosion" thing (after staying a while on the ground and causing no damage to the humans ofc- maybe a small particle system of flies above the bodies :)), not sure about the humans, but its a way better decaying method than the current one :) maybe some bodyparts (bones etc) could fly away like at the human building detonations.  :granger:

That actually does sound really cool.

Code away!

Sorry if it sounded demanding, it was just something that came to me... I have no clue how hard it would be to code, so whether it is "worth it" or not would be up to whoever wanted to code it... if anyone happens to want to.
I only brought it up here because I thought that people are so used to the sinking-into-the-floor-thing, that they might have overlooked the fact that there might be alternatives that would look cooler.

I was joking about realism, but I forgot the winky smiley face  ;)

As for that rare occurrence when someone dies on a ledge... maybe it was rare in q3, but it is pretty common on a lot of tremulous maps. Its not rare to see multiple bodies sinking right through the human base in Procyon. The devs have already made some improvements in this area ( :battlesuit: no longer turns naked after dying), so maybe they will try to code it if they think it would be an improvement. I would do it myself but i'm still working on my "hello world" program ;) ;) ;)

Nice idea actually.
I think UT2004's corpse decaying is close to what you mean, by the way. It really does look like someone is "reclaiming" it.
(And well, someone is, they got to respawn the tournament players)

(am sorry for the quality)

You make up Qrntz, u always angry, just calmdown. :police:
I am stupid idiot who dares to open mouth and start debating
