Summer Olympics timing doesn't work wellI'm starting to think the Summer Olympics wasn't the best idea in terms of timing. Taking a look at the score boards, a lot of clans have dropped out with only a few clans that scrim regularly making it to the matches. A lot of clans don't scrim on a regular basis and have not developed the teamwork or consistency of showing up to really participate well. This is not to say the Summer Olympics is a bad idea, but rather, it is an idea that has come a bit too soon and asks too much. It's the equivalent of having the Olympics, without any qualifier or practice rounds. Imagine having the Stanley Cup finals (hockey) but no regular season games.
In any case, I don't feel the Summer Olympics embodies the spirit of inclusion Tremulous is known for.I propose in the future we do the following:
1) Establish a tremulous league to keep track of games
2) Establish a 'regular season' with
=regular= scrim times. It's hard enough finding time in the middle of the day (seriously, who schedules games for 4PM EST on a Sunday in the summer) - a regular time once a week would allow people to set aside time to play.
3) Scrims should be one game during the regular season - or 2 at most. Four games has the potential to last upto three hours. This is okay for an 'Olympic' type event, but scrims should be consistent and try to be under an hour.
4) Once the 'regular' season is over, then qualifying teams make it to the 'Olympics' where it goes to the rules Kharnov has setup prior
5) [Optional - but I think would be cool] When a season is over, clans can trade players for a period of time to help balance the clans. OR, we establish TEAMS outside of clans where players are traded. It's cool having all the skill on certain clans, but for newer clans, it can be discouraging - causing them not to try or to just drop out. Again, not supporting the spirit of tremulous.
I think the above would be waaaay better because it would allow clans or teams to compete in a friendly way supportive of the spirit of trem. Perhaps after these Olympics are over, we can setup a Tremulous League and start having some really fun competition.
