OK.
Tremulous is feature complete and has been for some time now. Some limited testing has been undertaken, but only on LANs. More extensive testing is needed to properly balance the game. For this to occur a server with bandwidth and a benevolent owner is needed. I've tried to find such a server from within the mod community but it looks like I'm going to have to try elsewhere. I have yet to try games service providers like Barrysworld or Jolt but I'm not hugely optimistic about my chances with them. I can't afford to rent a server myself.
The second issue is the long running (erm.. forever) player models problem. Grim is helping out here. He has made some alien player models. So far they're looking very good. Hopefully importing them into trem will go smoothly. There is no human player model either, Hellbring comes and goes. This is not so acute a problem as the alien player models since q3a already has a large selection of human player models to choose from.
Besides these two problems, Trem is ready to go. There are three options:
- Release Tremulous now, before testing and without official models
- Release Tremulous after testing but without models
- Release Tremulous after testing and with models
Right now I'd say the first two are the most likely. This isn't as bad as it seems; we're using 3rd party player models as standins right now. If the first two options were enacted, the download process would be slightly convuluted since you'd have to download the player models seperately, but workable none the less.
If anybody has any bright ideas on server hosting don't hesitate to tell me.
As far as Q3Gloom goes, good luck to them :) ...not that they need it.
