Player Login for the server
« on: August 12, 2006, 04:16:40 am »
My suggestion would be to allow admins to create accounts for users who frequent their servers.  With this in place, a player could login to their named account using a password.

The purpose of this would be to help cut down the griefing going on.  No one could rename themselves as your name to make it look like you are TKing.  This feature should also allow players to get through a wide range IP ban.  Therefore if someone who uses your ISP gets your whole range banned, then you would not have to ask an Admin to unban just your IP everytime your IP changes (for us with dynamic IPs).

Something like this already exists, but it is only a one account thing. It is private slots, and many servers have 2 or more slots. SST, for example, used to only have 50 slots, but i got rid of 2 of the 4 private slots we had, and now we have 52.

it's called cl_guid, and everyone who has tjw's client (or svn 807 and on) has one, no one can rename to the name of an admin (i'm not sure about regular users who have a guid) on servers running tjw's code, and no one can take the name of a player who is online, many of these servers will give some basic admin rights to their regulars for when a real admin can't be online.

I was thinking of somthing like this to help people that may share a computer if you could sign up specific accounts to servers, because my brother was playing AKKA one day, one of my favorite servers, and I guess it was near the end of one game someone asked him to decon a def computer, which he did, but everyone blamed him for their loss and Mario banned him off, now I can't get on there anymore.

Damn...that sucks    Maybe send a e-mail to the Mario or something. Luckely my brother is 5 years old and can't use a computer yet. I like the idea of multiple accounts and instead of a Ip you could make a account ban. Or maybe that in order to play Tremulous you must first make a account. It will also help against all the UnnamendPlayers
