Settings not saved
« on: February 01, 2012, 04:12:27 am »
When I start Tremulous for the first time after a clean install, I get fullscreen 640x480. If I change to a different resolution and select no for fullscreen, I get the changes, but if I exit the game, those changes are not saved. If I start Tremulous again, I'm back to the default fullscreen 640x480. How can I get the settings to save? I've tried uninstalling/installing numerous times to no avail. I've also deleted the files in Application Data. I'm using Windows 7 and trying to install Tremulous v. 1.10. Any help greatly appreciated.

the stock Tremulous 1.1.0 binary is not aware of user-specific home directories, and is trying to save the settings right next to the binary itself, but, from what i can tell, Windows 7 disallows that for users with low privileges. so you should try using a better, Tremulous-1.1.0-compatible client, for example, TremFusion.

There are three places I've seen tremulous .cfg files stored:

  • C:\Program Files\Tremulous\base (or 'C:\Program Files (x86)' if you have 64 bit windows or wherever you installed the .exe)
  • C:\Users\Nathan\AppData\Local\Tremulous\[base/mod]
  • C:\Users\Nathan\AppData\Roaming\Tremulous\[base/mod]

If you want to be sure there isn't an evil .cfg file resetting your settings (which is what is surely happening) then I'd check all of these places and anything that sounds like these places.
