Creating map schemas
« on: February 26, 2012, 09:32:23 pm »
Many times I get lost in even common maps. And in large uncommon maps, it's really hopeless for me. Is there a way how to (preferably automatically) create some simple plans of the maps? I'd imagine something like projecting a map top-down, drawing wall outlines and names of individual parts. That would be more than enough.

What I often do with new maps is that I /devmap <InsertMapnameHere> and just walk/noclip around.

If you want to make a plan (don't know why you should), but if the .pk3 file has the .map file in it, you could open it and take a topdown screenshot. Most of them don't have the .map file in it though.
What you could do is /devmap it and noclip, just look down and make a screenshot. For awesome lines and stuff, you could use Illustrator or Photoshop or alike.

What I recommend though is that you just walk around the map a bit till you kinda know where everything is, or just follow someone who knows business.
