Avoiding Death by Dretch

I've been playing for several weeks, now, and when looking at my tremstats for the US server, I see a lot of dretch bites as a cause of death.  Could someone give me a few pointers on how to prevent this from happening?

- Get armour, and helmet if possible
- Use your eyes: look around a lot, inspect rooms visually before entering them
- Use your ears: a jumping dretch makes a very distinct sound

In general: try to spot and kill the dretch before it is able to get close.

furthermore, you will have more dretch deaths than anything else, just as an alien player will have more rifle deaths than anything.  dretch is free so you will statistically encounter it more.

Just make it bigger and then problem solved.

Ok, thanks for the advice.  I find that most of my dretch deaths, I know the dretch is coming, but I can't shoot it in time.  Is there anything to aim for, or do I just need to become a better shot?

this might make me sound like a jack ass but you would need to become a better shot and also be on a server with a very low ping.

It's the truth, my aim sucks, and I get far better scores on EU than US. 

It also helps to have played a lot as a dretch yourself. On each map, there's only so many places a dretch can hide.

I'm a dretch player and seem to be best at it than anything else.  I think that maybe maneuverability of the dretch gives it that edge.  Obviously the downside is that you can't chase anyone, because you are an easy prey.  But, it's free and in vanilla you really don't do much (if any) damage, to team mates.  I just have to watch the feed rate because it might end up hurting the team in the long run.
