Reload for the Chaingun
« on: August 13, 2006, 09:00:37 pm »
Yes I will proably get yelled at over this but dang it I'm posting it anyway.

I hate haveing to constantly run back to base to buy ammo for my chaingun.  If you in a hot area you can go through 300 rounds rather quickly.  So I think that like 1 or 2 reloads for the chaingun will signagntly improve it.  You can call them ammo drums or something.  Maybe you have to by a ammo pack or something to get a the reloads but my piont is you need to be able to have more ammo for the chaingun.

I only rarely run out of ammo for the chaingun, maybe I'm just being less agressive? Anyhow giving it 900 rounds is way out, and I'd rather have 1 x 300, than 2 x 200. I just like knowing that it won't stop firing. That's why it's the scariest weapon to face as an alien (or so they say).

Go down to Arcozelo's post (3rd one). You'll see that only the painsaw (melee weapon) and flamer (s2 weapon) do more damage per second than the chaingun, when you count the reload times. A chaingun can also do 24 seconds of solid shooting, dealing 1800 total damage. You want to triple that?

The only weapons that fire for longer are ones that fire slowly, like the lasgun, and ones that have long reloads, like the rifle. However, no weapon fills the air with as much lead as a chaingun.

You're asking the chaingun to be able to be fired for 72 seconds straight + reloads, do a max damage of 5400, and spray a total of 900 bullets into the air.

I say you should let go of the trigger once in a while, and conserve ammo.

I like the chaingun a lot, so I wish to unbalance it significantly and make it a superweapon.

We should also be able to shoot painsaws out of a cannon.

I'm seeing more and more of these:

"This obstacle course is difficult to run. I think we should remove all the things in your way. Then it would be WAY easier to get from start to finish.

Oooh ooh oh oh.. And there should be a chair lift! Then I could just sit back and pwn that course."

Or perhaps a more close to home example:

"And like OMG I should have made this game. It would be soooo cool then. I'd have aliens that dance and machine guns with nukes on and HUUUUUUGE numbers and aliens that eat rubber and play the ukulele and more robots!!!!"

Sounds like you suck ass, Evlesoa. Learn to play.

On another note, I award Kozak the "Best Post Ever" award.

Leave the chaingun alone, it's fine.
Stop it. Seriously.

ehem, when you are running in a circle around in the tunnels of ATCS, and there are 2 humans on one end, and 3 on the other, which each is armed with a chaingun, how do you escape? Either way, i ran passed 2 of them, and i take too much damage, i jump on walls like crazy, thats my suggestion... just leave it the way it is...

How about make the chaingun have a warmup time, like you press fire, and 5 secs later, the bullets come out. Maby time for the barrel to spin, start with a slow whop,             whop,        whop,     whop,  whop, whop, whopwhop, bdddddag.

Other FPSes have systems like this on the chainguns, and it isnt a deTurret from gameplay, it just makes the gun require more skill than point and shoot.

I've always been in favor of a chaingun warm-up time. Maybe with a warm-up time I could understand adding some more rounds to it; but, as it currently stands, beefing up the chaingun in any way seems like a bad idea.
Stop it. Seriously.

Well I think if you're trapped in a room with chaingunners on either side, firstly don't get into that situation (how did you get in if you can't get out) and secondly, it's a very imbalanced team that only uses chainguns.

I guess you could wait for support from something which owns vs. chainguns, unless your team are all n00bs (or perhaps just newbies).

Stop spraying and AIM.

Crouching and spraying at everything that's far or close to you won't do shit. You can't just go 'SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY' and then say, fuck my ammo is depleted, this shouldn't be happening, let's make a suggestion on the forums!
So bear in mind, there is a reason it "only" has 300 bullets.

Maybe 4* 100 ammo magazines would be ok together with a reload time of 3or 5 seconds.

I've been in that situation a few times. They always run after you, just stay on top of the middle. Then when they come up stairs, jump off the side. It hurts them but not you. Easy escape!

To them you just vanish. You can sometimes see them running around not having a clue where you've gone :P

Um, are you thinking of Transit maybe? I don't think ATCS has anywhere where you can get fall damage, apart from off the centre building.

Yeah, chainguns are OP because I can't win a 5v1 against them. :P

I'm not asking for a super weapon.  I'm just merely stating my opinion you don't have to flame some one about that.

It wouldn't be that un balanced.  Maybe you have to bye a ammo pack and then you can only carry 1 reload.  Maybe it takes a long time to reload.  And you say aim with the chain gun.  Thats not what a chaingun is supposed to be!  It supposed to make it to where you cuold walk on the bullets in the room.  And the blaster?  How the fuck is a blaster going to help against a maruader or dragoon?

What if the Mara/Goon got 2 hp left and tries to run away and you happen to have no bullets and you only need 1 kill to reach stage 3   Seriously there are moments when I use the blaster but if it did a little bit more damage I'm happy. I think it did around 10 damage, not sure though.

Please no, I like the chaingun because it's a constant spray of lead, sometimes you need to kill that tyrant NOW and don't have time to reload.
