Q: What is Mugen ?
A: Mugen is basically a 2D fighting game engine made by electbyte that allows you to either make your own edits from any character from any 2D fighting universe and incoporate them into Mugen. You can also make custom characters, port over and edit stages from any 2D fighting game or make your own, the ability to add your own music and tons more. It is a highly flexible engine and can be customized to suit the users taste.
Q: So you basically made this ?
A: Not the engine, no but all characterer edits have been added by me, all stages have been added by me, all music has been handpicked and added by me. I don't claim credit for the character creations, stages or music though, they go to their respective owners but believe me when I say this, this took copious amounts of hours to setup. It isn't simple as adding the stuff in there. You have to do a lot of messing around with lifebars, the menu system and adding characters to the select screen. That isn't even half of it.
Q: What kind of content do I expect to see here.
A: Over 100+ Characters, not useless bloatware characters that are broken, too overpowered or just there for scenery. All of the characters are special in their own way with most having a lot of abilities, special effects and loads more that will continuiously add replay value.
6 game modes varying from a Story mode to Survival death matches. You can have up to 2 people fighting simultaniously in a match giving you the possibilities to form dream teams. You can also watch the cpu duke it out with one another to learn characters or to just watch the impressive AI of characters.
There are arguably 100+ unique stages each with their own special themes and effects, not to mention the boss music that comes with each of them.
There are two bosses for story mode, 1 a sub boss and the other the main boss. Even though they are both challenging they aren't impossible to defeat.
Highly customizable controls. You can play with a joystick if you don't like using your keyboard but the keyboard works just as well. If you have a wired Xbox controller then you can configure it to work with Mugen. Xpadder is a program that handles Xbox controller intergration onto computer games. Not sure if PS3 controllers have a program for that but regardless joysticks can be used and are highly configurable within Mugen.
Q: How hard is this game ?
A: Well since peoples creations vary, with AI cheat on it can be a downright nightmare for newer players but luckily there is a way to turn off AI cheat so newer players can practice. I will explain how to do that in a few posts down. Keep in mind that most characters have built in AI and might not be affected by AI Cheat being off. What AI cheat does is instead of the computer manually putting in commands for abilties they automatically do them giving the illusion of a smarter AI. With it off they have to input commands manually to do techniques making it easier for players.
Getting Started
Installation: First off you need to download all 5 files since they are essentially the game itself. The links will be located at the bottom of the post.
Once you have all 5 downloaded. Make a Folder called Mugen Tournament 3 D.U.B Edition anywhere you see fit. Once that is done, extract all the folders to the Mugen Tournament 3 D.U.B Edition directory. Now with the character folders you will have to make a new folder called chars. Extract the character files into the char folder. and BAM, you're done! Start up Mugen and Play! Keep in mind you need to spell chars exactly how I have or the engine won't recongnize any of the characters you added.
If you decided to play with AI cheat on and the AI is giving you the bum bum raping of a life time then do this. Go into data and find a file called Mugen and open it up with notepad. Find the section that says Arcade. You should see AI Cheat = 1, Erase the 1 and add a 0 then save. The AI should be a lot easier for you to handle.
Once you have everything setup to your liking, kick ass, nuff said.
