Gloom: Infested Caverns
« on: August 15, 2006, 02:07:25 am »
Just so people know an early beta of a Infested Caverns port is now available through temulous.info.

It is more or less the Q2:glooms layout so most gloomers know what to expect. Visually I tried to make the walls, floors and ceilings in several spots seem more 'natural' than what was possible inthe original gloom's cavern areas.

Not real thrilled that in a few areas I had to resort to sourceless lights (damn things are a pain in the ass to match texture light color) but was necessary or have really pitch black areas in the more spacious locales.

Should be interesting to see how Infested Caverns plays out in tremulous :)

Oh yeah, one of the most bland Gloom maps is coming to Tremulous. After 5 years of playing that piece of shit in Gloom, you are nice enough to bring it to Tremulous.

Oh

joy

I have fired it up and it is looking better than the original already... okay, no great thing... ;)
But I think it had fun gameplay in gloom. It may be very bland to play it again after years of enduring it in gloom, but that are just a few people. I am looking forward to play it in Tremulous again, at least for a few matches! ;)

Got some holes where the walls meet the ground.

YEah, those are sealed from behind so there's no leakage, will up the patch mesh to hide the holes in the next version.

Have recieved mix reports about missing textures, can anyone confirm? supposedly the front entrance to the human made structure along with alot of the base textures show up as white lines/gray squares for a few people...a few others report no textures missing...

heh actually people are complaining it's TOO BIG. As for wallwalking, unlike the original author, Kris, instead of using diamonds to make jutting walls I took a page from the simland tutorials so the cavern walls are far more....natural....and actually insanely easy to wall walk on. Only a few areas have these types of walls at the moment but will eventually make all cavern walls the same way. Similarly the ground and ceiling in a few places are patch meshes so the ground dips and rises all over the place. Makes travelling kinda nuts :)
