On GPP Tremulous, the R Unlimited CZ server is nearly always busy.
But it's one of the retarded modded servers, so i would hope he'll want to avoid it. On the occasions that RCZ goes down or a few relatively capable players decide it's just not worth their time, we do get some good matches going on us1 and/or the pk server, sadly those are becoming ever rarer of late :(

Perhaps it should be noticed more that it's the modded servers which are always the busiest. Not the vanilla servers. Apparently, the majority of players don't agree with the "retarded" label - they want to have a fun game, and they'll go wherever that happens to be. Vanilla does get boring after awhile, and Tremulous has been around a long time.

I think they go to the servers with the most players.

which have the most players because they're the most fun.

People rarely bother with trying to "enjoy" boredom.
I guess it probably is more fun for new and inexperienced players to join a server where they feel that their skill level will have less bearing on the outcome of a match, they can just build trees and towers of boxes if they feel like it, 'cause that's fun, unfortunately, those of us who like to play trem in its more traditional form, where a strategically built base and a good feel for the weapons and classes are more important than using all of your build points and camping so hard that the opposition can't afford the evos to make a dent on your obscenely large but massively flawed fortress, don't get quite the same level of enjoyment, RCZ has turned tremulous into Lumberjack simulator 2013...
Maybe posting links to minetest or other free minecraft clones on the tremulous downloads page would reduce the interest in mods with huge bp counts and crates.

I just go by the numbers, kid :)

If a mod is more popular than what an old fogey would like, suck it up.

Old fogeys are the future kid. We like quote towers.
ViruS says this is a quote pyramid. Is this correct?
I don't think that's the issue here. The problem is that he didn't quote my post when replying.

Depends on other elements of the mod and the gameplay desired. Modified games are great for not only variety, but testing alternative choices for game balance adjustments. Sometimes they may work too.

we need bit more build points and better pings on us, then i will take everyone there and rcz will be empty.
Don't forget the flamer, you want the flamer banned, too, because it's OP and only used by noobs, or at least that appeared to be your opinion on the matter over on rcz the other day...
When you say that you'll take everyone to us1, how will you achieve this, who are you, what power to you hold over the playerbase?
as for randomly upping the build points, it's really not necessary if you bother to learn to use the points you have in the first place, there are some guides on this very forum, the ping thing, well that would require that it move considerably closer to you, which isn't likely to happen without it ceasing to be US1, besides, i can cope with US servers just fine, stop refusing to touch it on principal and just play there a bit.

Going back to UBP vs vanilla for a moment, playing with ridiculously high numbers of build points simply isn't my idea of fun, it also tends to produce very poor quality players who are often too busy building useless structures, or running headlong into a fight with no idea what they're doing, to have an impact when skilled players turn up. I have no problem with mods when they have some kind of direction but just throwing in ludicrous numbers of build points and an array of completely useless structures to build with them just feels pointless.
Oh, i remember who SamOz is now, hehe, an important member of volt's batshit brigade, whatever happened to that tremz thing with the wonderful volt at its helm, did it die shortly after you all vowed to soldier on, rename to hexterra for a while and then die, silently reintegrate with unv or is it still in super secret development somewhere?

It's rather rare for such modifications to be random and without forethought. I'm not sure where that view of mods encouraging poor players comes from, because I believe that all games get that. The newbies get better eventually. Maybe it's just that such mods attract MORE players than vanilla tremulous these days so it just seems like that there are more bad players. Personally, I prefer games with a lot more BP than vanilla tremulous normally has, and it does seem to work better when there are lots of players. A few players just like to pass the time building; I say "Let Them!". Got to start somewhere. If it works for that bunch, and they enjoy, good for them. Maybe they'll try other mods too.

Carry much of a chip on that shoulder?

Nobody was "batshit" in TremZ; that assertion of yours is ridiculous. TremZ members weren't encouraging people to troll the Unvanquished forums, or to post troll threads here on Tremulous.net - the reverse was not the case however. This discussion doesn't belong here; you'd probably misrepresent the facts regardless of what the truth might be. Progress continues - just under other names. You could say that TremZ split into other forks rather than actually dying outright. I'm still working on such a project in my spare time with a few others. I  never liked the TremZ name to begin with (nor do I like the name Unvanquished; perhaps it's merely superstition, but it just seems bad luck to use a failed project name for a new project).
