I first started reading this thinking it was a crap idea. But I'm thinking something of the like could help a lot.

The problem is, rarely does the alien team camp, because their defense isn't effective enough for that. And since their defense is melee and best placed behind doors, humans would be able to build their base attacker by simply clustering around it as it builds behind the door to the alien base. Then boom, the defense is gone, and the humans rush in. And only having it for the alien side would be cheap, especially if it's hidden somewhere hard to reach.

But the building-to-building concept is an interesting one. I think it should be something that only works by LoS, a complete 3d one would have lots of balance issues. (Think, you could put one on the floor directly above the enemy base and destroy everything before they know what hit them)

Now, I'd imagine the human one as resembling a repeater (compact, rounded shape), and it temporarily disables buildings by hitting them with a tesla-like zap that does little damage, and disables the structure for maybe 10 seconds. The defense computer would make these structures target all structures in range in sequence instead of repeatedly hitting the closest one, which would end up disabling many more structures. And of course it would have the hp of an armoury, so that they're only useful when the humans are dominating and can defend such a forward structure.

The aliens would have basically the same thing, but I can't be bothered to think of an organic attack that would incapacitate buildings but not units.

By limiting it to a short line-of-sight range, it makes them only effective when the team is doing well anyway. However imo it'd be far less easy to abuse.

Wouldn't building something next to an enemy base be pretty difficult?

I just don't see how you could use this effectively.

just no

human camping  = GOONS and lots of them

what to the humans get? credits!

then they get thier fancy new chaingun and leave the base, CHOMP

then they get pissed and sit in the base meaning more evos for the aliens

a whole team of goons with 9 evos will pwn camping humans

camping humans are either noobs or people who arnt noobs but arnt that good that they feed a bit

your only problem with camping humans is people on your team feeding

pro humans will not camp

and the idea of a seige machine, well

lets say it is easy to destroy

what happens if you have 4 tyrants camping it just so they dont need to attack the base defences and risk being killed?

Good points, Juno, good points. I suppose they'd get abused, and would just end up encouraging n00b grangers/ckits to join the forward attackers as well. Although it's a bit odd that regular buildings don't attack enemy structures...

So maybe it's something to consider later, when there aren't so many other important things to work on.

This isnt NS, and I really dont think this would work. The gameplay is simply too fast paced

It would be far too powerful, as you would never need to risk yourself to attack. Also have you considered the fact that humans would simply build one in their base, and so prevent the aliens from being able to build a forward egg/booster etc.

Interesting idea for a mod, but not something I would like to see in the main game.

Mind you the logistics of how exactly this would work, what it would attack etc would be absurdly complicated, and I can imagine a lot of exploiting that could go on with it...

Never played NS before yet you make a suggestion that is the exact same as a structure from NS? maybe you should go play NS some so in the future you know what not to suggest.

So you would counter camping by removing the need for either team to attack their others base? that sounds like just more camping to me
