Yeah, I know the manga was probably better (I think all movies save maybe the Lord of the Rings trilogy botch the book version)

Actually, the case of Akira is special. Many manga are transformed into poor animes, mainly because of fillers. But they still keep the original story line, and if you get ride of all the fillers, and dont mind some slight modifications, you can still find the original book story in it.

But it isn t the case for Akira. The book and the anime has a completly different story : They have approximatly the same beginning but what happens next is completly different. The problem is, the film version doesnt have much sense.

I just say this to clarify our reaction. But dont worry i do understand the fact that as your first japanese animation, it has something special in it for you

Ya know, for some reason I HATED Scrapped Princess. The magic concept was a cool idea (technology based magic is always interesting) but I absolutely hated it. Soopy kun was the final nail in the coffin.

I actually haven't watched Slayers (even though I have their music and love much of it) strange, isn't it? Menchi goodness for me, anyone? :D

Aahhh that's right! The name of the episode was Magnetic Rose! Thanks Ksempac. :) Yes, that was a very nostalgic but very, very beautifully done show. Watching the astronaut get lost in the illusion was even better!!!

Dormedas: True, the bounto arc isn't as bad as some of the naruto stuff I've seen, but TELL ME that those 3 dolls are not just the dumbest things ever. At least give 'em back their bodies when they go to Soul Society damnit! And ep 94 is, hands down, possibly the WORST episode I've ever had to endure in ANY anime ever.

I mean..

Rukia "BIND!" *binds bounto*
Bounto "Ngghh!! damnit!" *is weakened*
Rukia (Who is beyond outclassed, and doesn't even have a sword) *Stares horrified at the bound lady and watches her break free*
Rukia + doll together *SCREAM*

-_-;;;;;

Hey, most series must have some for of comic relief somehow :)

In the Scrapped Princess case, it's probably the first anime in a fantasy world I've watched where the magic itself isn't the center of the story but just something of the day to day life. That in itself is good ;)
urphy's rules of combat
8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

Hmm true. It didn't get to me in the same way that Honey and Clover's humor got me I suppose.

Bleach (only up to the part when the characters get out of the Soul Society. Then it gets really crappy)
Gundam Seed
Gundam Seed Destiny

and others are all mangas. Can I talk about mangas in here too? I think mangas are better than animes because if you are secretly watching anime, you could get caught more easily than reading. And people say reading is good :p

PS. If you don't like the bounto arc in Bleach, THEN READ THE MANGA OF BLEACH. It's completely different with even cooler characters! WOOT!
With Half-hallows and even Ichico becomes a hallow-controller where he can control his mask  :D . But I don't read it... my brother does. And I just peek sometimes and I like it.

Sure, manga's are fine too. :)

I read the Bleach and Naruto mangas specifically because I find the anime's to be a bit bleh in their filler arcs.

On that note, Aishiteru ze Baby and Honey and Clover have awesome mangas.

Actually... in general, mangas as a whole tend to do alot better when you read them then when they make the jump to anime. I have no clue why.

okay
One I finished:
-Pretty Face
-GTO
-Deathnote

Reading:
-Full Metal Alchemist (the anime isn't very good, and the manga and anime are COMPLETELY different.)
-Bleach (sometimes)

I can't remember others...

i love the gundam series... only problem there was the series i saw on cartoon network i believe "sd gundam" ?? little midgit sized gundams.. pretty gay except for teh little zaku's which were awsome... only saw 2 eps of that though... gundam seed and destiny were pretty cool.. some lovy dovy stuff and drama i didnt care for but battle scenes were cool and the soundtracks are frickin awsome...i listen to some of the tracks while i play trem.. the dubbing for them suck... seriously seems like they dont put any feeling at all into the voice acting... so i watch teh subbed ones instead...

gundam wing is a classic and there were other seiries that were good to..

as for others i havent had time to watch much else.. right now im on naruto and im still a few eps behind im on 196... anyone know what ep they up to?? well since college started i can use wireless while im there so more torrenting and more trem..

any good anime recommendations that have cool fighting and shit??

Yes that's right holy. Episode 200 is the start of the Kakashi arc, and that's from the manga's so we're gonna finally see Akatsuki start moving.

Unknown: Heh. Wish I could see more gundam. I watched the special OVA of the 1 year war that was shown recently (MS Igloo) and that just made me sad.

Also, dubs on a general whole are BAD for me. I'm not saying the people are, but I've always enjoyed the show when the thing is in Japanese for some reason. Some people don't, and to each his own. :)

SD Gundam was a cute offshoot.

Show "Grave of the Fireflies" to the makers of that website and see their reaction.

Man i've been watching a lot lately. Started with Witch Hunter Robin which was pretty solid until the end where I felt the whole thing got rushed. It sort of drew it out for half of the series, then hit a nice pace with the story and the last few episodes just felt like rushwork and like they didn't really match the quality of the rest of the series. Still glad I bought it though, it was overall pretty good.

Blood: The last vampire, fabled for its amazing animation (i'll admit here and there the CG was so seemless (it was CG done to look like anime instead of some kind of strange computer/reality anime mashup stuff) it was one of the most awesome things ever), but the story was COMPLETELY HORRIBLE. Its the worst anime I own.

I am watching now texhnolyze(going pretty well), gunslingergirl(heard the animation was great but so far i'm not caring for the series) and Serial experiments Lain (.. its like the last few episodes of evangelion as a series.. not bad, but so far it isn't really solid). Anyone seen them all the way through?

I really like GITS kind of technology/net/robot/WHR stuffs.. if you have any recommendations they are more than welcome.
