kills to get to next stage
« on: August 31, 2006, 04:22:50 pm »
hi, is there anyone that could explain me how kills to get to the next stage work?? Sometimes the number increases.... One known reason for this is when a new player join a team... But sometimes it just increases... (no new player, no tk, suicides... nothing)
Is there a timeout (no kills for few minutes)?
In the end anyone knows what exactly affects these numbers?

The stage kills count does not jump immediately, it slowly goes up or down for some time after a player joins or leaves the team.

It also goes up if there are no kills for a certain amount of set time.
This is not the standard trem setup but rather a server side option.

This is the reason why some aliens will go on suicide runs 2 kills before the next stage up, simply to avoid the kill # from going up.
Yelling at team mates since 2006!

I had no idea about any of this.

I always assumed that it was calculated by multiplying the number of team members by a certain number of kills, and when it went up, it was due to suicides or TK's.

Maybe a timer should be shown that tells when the amount will go up or down?

imo its BROKEN currently
I'v been in 5vs5 games, where humans got S3 while aliens with MORE kills had S1 .. all it takes is aliens constantly joining and leaving, game adds to stage kills at once, but never/VEEEERY slowly subtracts, Me and karvajalka killed >10 humans in 10 minutes and STILL were 1-2 kills from S2 .. while humans had S3 all the time, its VERY BROKEN.

also, in one on one games, you need 4 kills for s2, the suddonly with nothing happening will give me s2, even if i only have 2 or 3 kills.
never known why.

Sorry for thread necromancy but what do you think about freezing the stage kill counter for the outstaged team? That means for example  that when humans reach stage2 while aliens are still stage1, alien stage counter won't be affected by player count changes until they reach at least the same stage as humans.

From my experience and random information, Aliens are required to get more kills than Humans for any stage.

In my experience, people feel that aliens need more kills for stage upgrades than humans because aliens killed by turrets count for the next stage ( if humans did half the damage ) but don't show on the score board. I don't think that standard config

Try it : launch a server and check the values of g_alienStage2threashold, g_alienStage3threasold, g_humanStage2threashold and g_humanStage3threashold : they are the same for aliens and humans.
