Suspicious bug
« on: September 02, 2006, 01:54:44 pm »
I hope I'm not being paranoid right now. My psychologist says that I am, and usually I agree.

I just played a game on one of the (is there more than one?) SATGNU servers. Due to team imbalances I switched teams, from aliens to humans. There were about six players in the game. The switch went smoothly, and I went on fragging aliens.

Then I received a "the team has too many players" dialog, the annoying one you have to click 'OK' to close. In the middle of the game, just as I was aiming at a Marauder doing a flight over our base. I thought no more about it, but it happened again. I kept on playing and it was quiet for a while, but when I was outside the alien base doing a head to head with a Marauder, the same dialog appeared again. SIX TIMES IN A ROW. Needless to say, my body was used for carpeting on the floor.

Have any of you had an experience like this one? Smells like exploit to me.

Its only a bug that happens from time to time

Really annoying when it happens, but its also very rare...so rare i thought there was a patch for it.

Wasnt this traced back to people using strange characters in their names?

try using TJW's mod. if there's a fix it'll be there.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

STAGNU already uses TJW's codebase so this one's fixed. It was either another server or some brand new bug. If it happens to anyone again, record a demo and send it to Tremulous Bugzilla.

It still happens on SATGNU, I also have experienced that piece of shit of a bug, it's goddanm annoying! And 5 times in a row is nothing, I've been clicking that menu away for over 20 times at one occasion.
The thing is that for some unkown Murphy's Law this kinda shit always happens when you can totally live without it. That is, when you are in combat with some big Alien, or when you are trying to maul your way through a wall of camping flesh.

You can get rid of the annoying popup by patching your server with one of the two patches from Tremulous bug 2786. It won't fix the bug, you'll just get simple message in the upper left corner of your screen with cg_disableWarningDialogs 1 instead of popup window. DO NOT apply both patches, they conflict with each other!

OK, I've found the origin of this bug and you can get the fix at Tremulous Bugzilla. However, there's huge underlying bug that urgently needs fixing.
