Note: I hope this thread is in the right place, off-topic just didn't seem as relevant (plus noone ever goes there o_O)

Anyway, I'm just commenting on the effectiveness of the forum search function. From what I've deduced, there are two things wrong with how it searches:
1. All it looks for is for the frequency of the search words. Whether or not they're used together or in a phrase is ignored.
2. It seems to give priority to the new threads. For example, nearly every search gives several threads from the front page as results, even though they don't relate at all. A new thread could use 1 of your search words once, but appear as a top result.

It's just that, in my experience, the search funtion here just isn't very helpful. I don't know if that's something that can be tweaked or not, hopefully it's not unchangeable >_>

Yes, it would be awfully nice if you could search for an exact phrase.

LOL.. I was thinking about posting this asking the search vets (you know the guys who always tell you to search) if they had any tips because the search in the forums seems impossible for me to use, I can't find anything even with the best searches I can come up with.. Moofed has the right idea though.. google does a way better job.

Generally us search vets remember more unique strings of text in important threads and type those in, disadvantage is you have to be a search vet to actually do it.
I’m busy. I’ll ignore you later.

Big problem is when those strings are very common, or when you can't remember the title of the thread because you have amnesia/it was unmemorable/the relevant conversation started out of a thread that had nothing to do with it.
