I can't handle basilisks. Perhaps i've spent to little time playing as a basi or perhaps it's just not my thing. I know though that there are scary basilisks out there who know what they are doing. They sure can handle me and my saw :(

Anyway it would be fun to be able to watch some skilled basilisks in action. If someone has a demo of them him/her owing as basilisks I would love to see them. Maybe I could learn a thing or two while staring in awe.

hehe...i admire your effort to use a free packer, but for unix- or macusers this format sucks as it isn't "zip"-conform. Maybe you could export it to zip or rar or stuff...i bet most people won't install another packer just for decompressing that file ;)

Throw winzip away, and get winrar. It can also open 7zip files :)

there's no such thing as winzip or winrar for unix/linux/(for mac i don't know).
Besides, winzip and winrar are both non-free, i'd never use such software.

$ sudo apt-get install p7zip
or
$ sudo apt-get install lzma

no idea what is your problem with LZMA? free and Open source

i have a problem with apt-get. Debian is for whimps ;)

For real, the problem is that noone likes to install a new program for every single format s/o other likes to use. There are tons of formats that are supported by software anyone has installed, why not use those?
For example gzip or bzip are free, high-quality and cross-platform (extractable by winzip and winrar too).

Anyways, my intention was not to get you pissed off, i just wanted to point out that in my opinion it's better to use cross-platform formats that anyone has installed by default. Do it as you like ;)

Rar and 7zip ( LZMA ) extractors/packers are available as source code.

Who said that winrar/zip aren't free? Certainly they'll annoy you with "please register me" notices, but you can continue to use them freely after the 30 day period... right?

*Is semi-sure of this since he used to use winzip before swapping over to a registered copy of winrar :P *

PS: Boy did we off topic this fast :P

I think 7zip is a good format, but I wouldn' distribute anything in it.

Most people would rather download an extra 10mb of file than a 5mb extractor.

I would only consider anything other than .zip, (or .tar.gz/bz2 for linux stuff) for a file larger than 20mb, and only really use one if it's over 100mb.

when linux heads say free, we don't mean dollar value, we mean this. winzip and winrar are both not free by that definition, but 7zip is, though i agree that for now at least, .tar.bz2 is much less of a hassle for most people (and .tar.gz ... bzip2 has won the unix zip wars, get over it)

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/p7zip/p7zip_4.42.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb

300KB .. THREE HUNDRED kilobytes, one apt-get install away. same size for Winblows, 650KB for MAC OSX.

WTF is wrong with you ppl? :) this is one packer that rules them all, best compression ratio, fastest decompression time, can unpack rar shitzozzz, TeH best there is.

The thing a like about rasz is that he can play every alien very well, over the time I have played the game I have seen very few players that are able to play ever alien extremely well and some of the players I seen spent over 200 hours on the game and have been playing since beta.

If you ever want to watch how a mara or lisk should be played play with rasz.

not true, I cant play goon, it is too FAT and slow for me. I use it only to kill bases when noone is arround or human team lacks good players :). I am BLOWN AWAY every time I see Baron or Napkin gooning one human after another. Hmm, I'm gonna ask Nap for the goon demo next time I see him :)

well, I'm far from a 1337 basi player, but I'll try some basi runs and see if I get a good record.

Also I don't get what the problem is with using .zip. Personally I've never heard of .7z before so there's no advantage in downloading the extractor when I'm only going to use it once. All it takes is to switch to the format that's has marginally higher filesize and extraction time, and make it available to everyone without downloading one-use apps. Besides, .dm_69 files aren't exactly huge, basically you're asking me to spend 2 minutes downloading an app to be able to extract a file 10% faster. Thanks, 2 minutes of installing for an extraction that takes 0.9 seconds instead of 1! What value! /sarcasm

And of course the irony is that I've spent about 3 or 4 minutes shaming you for not using .zip :P

Recent WinRAR can extract with 7z files too :o

There is no good reason to still be using WinZip on Windows !

Is that what the no-point spawn rifle is supposed to be a M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon)?

As in-

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but this is the first time I have heard it called a SAW, but that just may be MTS's slang for an auto-rifle.

I hope the above user is kidding O_O

He means "saw" as in "painsaw". The point he was getting at is how the basilisk grab range (96 units) outdoes the painsaw's attack range (64). When confronted with a painsaw, a basilisk can just stand there and wait for the painsawer to walk into grab range, then swipe freely while receiving no damage.

Nope, not kidding and sorry for the mistake.  I'm a bit new to Tremulous and come from the world of Far Cry (arguablly still the finest FPS ever made) that has non-linear maps that are measured in miles and you can go everywhere on them walking, driving, swimming or diving.  The SAW (M249) is THE primary weapon of Far Cry so pardon my ignorance in Tremulous as the idea of a Painsaw(?) is a bit bizzare and takes getting used to.

db = pounce instant chomp, pounce instant chomp
normally you have to wait fixed time frame before another chomp, patched in tjw (I think)

Understandable. But yeah, anyone referring to the saw or psaw is talking about the painsaw.

And yes, I love Far Cry too. Maybe I wasn't playing it right, but I thought it was tedious though. You'd sneak up to the next bush, wait 20 seconds as your stealth meter decreases from the danger zone, then repeat. Then you'd take a couple shots at some guys and again wait until the stealth meter goes down before continuing. Because of that I was getting completely owned ("easy" is freakin hard, or are there no difficulty levels? I forget), so eventually just put a trainer on and god moded through the game to see what the ending was like. Last comment, I must say that the end of the game gets weird, tropical environments are way better than desolate exteriors and tight hallways while fighting genetically modified apes.

But despite it all, it's still a good game, and broke barriers in level size, openness, and by covering those huge environments with forest while still keeping a good frame rate.

No, there were 4 or 5 levels of difficulty and you could turn on adaptive AE (Artificial Intelligence).  Also, with the right graphics card and HDR turned on, the game was close to photo-realistic (with birds flying & fish swimming).  How was your hang-glider ride over the gorge or between the islands?

You should have tried on-line multi-player.  Much faster pace.  Unfortunately, 20 players could overwhelm a dual Xeon server with a 4 Gb Internet connection.

I don't want to turn this thread into a FC discussion, but good to see some one else has tried that game.
