When you are brand new to the game it is not very obvious that you need to sell your gun to see other options. I kept waiting for reinforcements thinking I could not get any new guns until they arrived.

I suggest that all guns are shown and when you attempt to purchase one it sells your current gun for you.

That suggestion already been posted.

Not to spam forum with topics, I want to post my idea here:
A changing colors for health.
This comes from Wolf:ET where health number goes from white to red when approaching zero.

@ above poster: Um, maybe that's where YOU saw it, but I can assure you that ET didn't invent the red "critical health" feature. Otherwise I agree with you, because right now there isn't much contract between the hp lettering and HUD background, so it's hard to see your health peripherally. And having to take your eyes off that goon just to see how much damage he did is not a good thing. I'd propose something like this:

90 to 100 hp: green font. Means "dude, you have over 90 hp, don't worry"
60 to 89 hp: regular blue font. Means "you took a hit, but you're still ok"
30 to 59 hp: yellow font. Means "Uh oh."
1 to 29 hp:  red font. Means "OMFG RUUUUUN!!!!"

That way you can just see the colour with your peripheral vision and know what your health situation is like much faster.

Another suggestion, simply for aesthetic purposes, would be to have your hp slowly pulse while a medkit or medipad is healing you. Just the sort of thing where the colour goes whiter, fades back to normal, goes whiter, fades back, etc etc.

@original poster: yeah, it's already been mentioned several times. I still agree with it completely though, I remember someone having to tell me that when I first started playing, and it gets annoying when EVERY new player has to ask a question like that. And yes, I DID read the manual first, but I guess it's an easy part to forget. Aaaaand finally, it's just an extra mouse click that accomplishes nothing, because you ALWAYS have to sell before you buy a new gun.

My bad, I didn't want it to sound like that, I posted ET as a example.
And I agree with medkit pulsing idea.

Another solution would be to have an actual health bar available. Like in the various Metroid Prime games for example ( horizontal health bar at the top of the screen )

If not, I would go for adding the health info near the crosshair. Something like is done on Oblivion for showing your current target health but for your own health instead.
urphy's rules of combat
8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

Which brings me to another point: aiming at teammates should produce a healthbar over them just like a structure healthbar, perhaps smaller. Would make it much easier to figure out who leads an attack, since I always do my best to get in front of teammates low on hp.

Yea, the Health bar would be great, maby even with a slight friendly overlay.

Also the human points are not very obvious... I mean the points you use to purchase stuff ( i dont know the technical name). It took me a while to realize which number that is... maybe make it bold or something a little bit more noticeable... maybe a different color.
