Could we try not to stack the teams please?
« on: September 17, 2006, 06:59:49 am »
Sometimes it makes me sad when the teams are badly stacked.

So please, switch, or at least go easy.

I hate it. People don't want to switch because they rather have humans or aliens when they are pretty balanced.

sometimes the humans refuse to let you switch, even when they keep losing game after game. sometimes it is really frustrating to lose because your team has feeders/noob builders, so you stay away from that team. and sometimes none of the 'pros' want to play atcs again (sore loser restart vote passed), so they all stack aliens and win in 5 minutes. those are pretty much the only reasons i will ever stack teams.

Ok let's plan it out. Asva, you are nub, go sit on rets, I will build, you two go feed like hell, you go pwn their asses, and everyone else camp in the hallway, roger?
the dretch bites.

:p.  I'm sure some practice/work as a team will straighten you guys out.  This is a team based game you know ;).  The fact that you let us move under the stairs and let us win from there is disappointing though  :x .

Reminds me of the US basketball team sucking in the Olympics these past years.

like I said, had I been building and let te attack instead of him building things would have been very different :)

I'm the clans designated builder after all (mostly cause I suck on offense) :P

Its fine if a clan wants to play together on one side.. i dont' see a problem with that at all as long as they don't do it for 100 matches in a row. I do auto-select pretty much every time so I can get more rounded, and if I notice a team is having a hard time i'll try to get on that team because I've gotten addicted to fighting the uphill battle.

Btw i wouldn't say those are the l33test SGA members.. Pacra is good but he was only in for 2 min. The entire human team though consists of pretty good members... seriously.. none of you can beat your mother.. because that would just be mean.

Actually Pie, Pacra had indeed been on for almost that entire game. He left and came back. I forget why, but he was on, and had a few kills. He may have been building, I can't remember.

That would have been me.  I fill in when there are no others (or my ping gets too high), but am only a fair builder.  I occasionally drop my builders wrench for more firepower when getting sniped.

I don't remember.  Was this a SGA server?  If so, they have a right to team as they wish.  If not, then it is bad form.

It was Akka, which is admined mostly by terror east (now silicagelallied), so it was ok. But to my memory, it was the only time that it has happened. Makes me wonder how much better we could all be if we worked as a team rather than individual killing machines.

Are the devs planning on putting in a "auto team balance" script, or somthing of the like? Should be pretty simple to make, you see it in all kinds of newer multiplayer fps.

The problem with most "auto team balance" options is that they're just randomizers that randomly assign teams. Which in my experience, are just as bad as people stacking the teams.  Randomized teams are probably just as likely to become unbalanced.

Plus,  there's just a likely chance that perfectly balanced fun teams get completey screwed up when the randomizer hits effect.

It'd be nice to see someone put a lot of thought into it, and create some sort of historical ranking system that will measure players' performance (on either team), and then assign them in an intelligent fashion.

But even then, I'm dubious.  Some people like to play humans,  some people like to play aliens.  I'm not really keen on a computer making a decision which teams either of those players plays for.

The best current and viable option is for quality moderation of servers.

The worst is at the start of the game. Map loads, 1 guy joins humans and 2 join aliens, then there are 10 spectators waiting there. 3/4 of the time, the aliens won last round and everyone just wants to join the winning team. Then you, who legitimately want to play aliens, gets stuck there. Usually you end up being the courteous player who caves and joins humans, watching a guy join aliens a split-second later due to a team join bind.

(note: happens equally for both teams, had to use one as an example though)

neckhole you might have a point, but what do you think would be the greater of the two evils? one team with 5 players while the other has 10? or one team with all the good players, and the other team with the newbs? it could even get worse, one team with 5 newbs, other team with 10 pros?

if you use autobalance atleast you could get rid of one evil.
