Trick Jumps?
« on: September 26, 2006, 12:56:53 am »
Well the previous game I played trick jumps were very popular (*waits for kozak to post*).
Now I've found a few that are semi-trick jumps, want to know what everyone else has found :).
Trick Jump Demos
To view demos, place them in your Tremulous/base/demos (create if necessary) folder.  Open up trem and type "/demo namehere" in the console.
I know some people know some, if not all of these.  This thread is to discuss and share trickjumps, not to fight over "who's they are" or "that's no trickjump."
Demo runthrough:
Jump1 - Tyrant jump over top default base rail.  Very helpful :).
Jump2 - Marauder jump into ATCS default base.  Also helpful :).
Jump3 - Granger into ele ledge (by self) in Karith.  Not tricky but helpful :).
Jump4 - Granger onto default boxes in Karith, good for placing a high egg.
Jump5 - Granger into vent in dark stairs in Karith, not very usefull, but the last place an s1 human would look for a granger :).
Jump6 - Dragoon getting out of the Tremor basement.  Helpful for noobs who think they're stuck :).  Works at all three stairs.
Lucyjump1 - Nexus lucyjump from ground to egg ledge.  Helpful to stop annoying aiming at eggs from afar.
Lucyjump2 - Karith Ele Room.  If aliens have moved here and are camping that vent quick way to circumvent that problem ;).
Lucyjump3- ATCS Lucyjump.  Quickest and easiest way to om guarnteed :).

Lots of other possible lucy jumps (niveus onto ledge there, arachnid from crate room into pipes, etc etc.).  These seemed most helpful.

LOL Tremma. Looks like you have a lot of time on your hands.  Giving away the trade secrets.  :D  Good work by the way.  Some of these I've used some I haven't.

How about a saw trick jump next

hiya,
i've made up some jumps too, nothing fancy, just good ole plain lucyjumping.
Download zipfile here.

*edit: @rasz:
i tried that too, but recording /video directly with trem gives me about 5 fps...it's unplayable and impossible to stand a good jump that way. Besides, in the video the screen is blurry and...well, it sucks. Maybe xvidcap can do this? Sadly it needs half gnome as dependancy (lib-bonobo, bonobo-ui, bonobo-whatever, ...), that's too much shit for me to install just for that prog.

Other than that, i couldn't find anything useful.

Record a demo first, then run it with /timescale set to something like '0.25'. It will run 4times slower * 5fps = would give 20fps in normal speed.

I'm too lazy to make a demo but people know these without seeing them.

M.E.E.P. Elevator
Mara using the railings of the Elevator structure to go to top.

Nexus6 pipes under metal walkway, by alien base.
Use either corner of the wall of the large openings with a mara to go to the top.

Karith
Wall nook/terrace by elevator room.
Lucy jump to kill the hiding granger/om.

Karith
Top entrance of hummie base.
The fastest way to get onto the walkway outside without being shot in the process is using one of the columns on the ground as a mara.

Some are cheap, some a tad harder but all quite usefull.

One for Tremma (and Workophobia, Kozak6, EvilFrog)
Rapid air RL jump to Nex Power from bottom on SilverCity

Try not to pull a Dave and kill yourself in the process ;)
Yelling at team mates since 2006!

@4as:
TY, very good tip. Now it works very smooth ;)

@rasz:
i noticed you can edit the file with avidemux very simple, i.e. adjusting brightness and contrast, cutting, requantisizing etc. Btw, the videos play with xine, vlc and mplayer here.

they play, but mjpeg-tools say they are broken, cinerella cant open them and so on :/ I ended up using mencoder, then cinerella, then deleting because it was too much trouble to edit them all :P

Without viewing the demo (I'm lazy and it's late at night): Luci jumps look awesome but I've almost never seen them used. The one time I've seen them done right was on Niveus, on to the platform that aliens camp by human base. It's darn scary to see a battlesuit leap up into the sky and then fast-luci a granger point blank.

The goon jump from the basement on Tremor is pretty handy. Really, the only aliens that don't have a chance of getting out of there without a dretch boost are tyrants and s1 grangers.

I heard that was possible but never really tried it successfully. I think it may have gotten harder in nexuiz 2.0, but I'm not sure.

I thought it got easier...
Shoot ground... explode another rocket in face.... explode another in face...

Phreak reminded me the other day of the s1 granger on Nexus from the ground to the ledge.  Might record it at some point.

I know one player who uses them  on a daily basis - Gryf. I use lucyjump only when humans moved to elevator camping grounds.

I use Luci jumps as much as possible. I use Luci jumps on ATCS to get on top of the middle building, I use them to get back to the base wquickly, I use them on Karith for the same reason when the human base is on top of the stairs in the starting room ( heal, reload, jump down, kill a goon and flee back to heal before a tyrant has the time to reach you :D )

I use Luci jumps on ATCS to attack the alien base the same way I use them in the human base, I use them in any map to avoid aliens charging at me, either by going on high ground that they can't reach, or by horizontal lucijump to gain speed and flee to safety.

8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

i don't like the atcs luci jump because you can walk around the middle structure, and you will get to the alien base at roughly the same time. (that and it was really easy to screw up when i started trying it). also, i too would like a demo of luci jumps being used in combat.

Of course, when it's just movement to the alien base I save my HP and go around :) Lucijump on top of the middle building is used as a Tyran avoiding tool : get on top, wait for the tyrant to take the stairs and go back to safety at that time.
