MAC MAPPING - THE MYTH
« Reply #60 on: April 23, 2007, 06:25:28 pm »
BIG TIP!

I was surprised this makes a difference but it makes all the difference in your .game file:

Code: [Select]
enginepath_macos="/Applications/Tremulous/"

will cause a crash

Code: [Select]
enginepath_macos="/Applications/Tremulous"

will load fine.

Stupid trailing slash inconsistencies.  I only figured this out after almost giving up getting macradiant to work, by looking at the q3.game file and noticing the trailing slash differences between win32/nix and macos entries.

WTF is that about?

Just thought I should let you know, I have never heard of anyone getting MacRadiant to work on an Intel Mac using X11.  I have MacRadiant 1.5 working on a PPC Mac with Tremulous in the dropdown menu, and it works fine.

The only problem is that it puts your saved maps save in an invisible folder.

The folder that it puts them in is ~/.trem

To view hidden files, you can use my hidden files script located here:
http://www.divshare.com/download/1573069-5e5

MacRadiant 1.4 will not work on an Intel Mac (for me, and I've tried just about everything).  Unless you have a PPC Mac or a Linux VM on your Intel Mac, don't expect to be able to map for Tremulous.
Thanks!

I did it by downloading MacRadiant 1.4 for Intel from the site I mentioned above (but it seems to have been hacked right now)

I managed to set it up for my brother on a new Intel Imac.  Try http://tremmapping.pbwiki.com.  It has the instructions that I used.

Really?  I've tried many times on many different computers without any success.  And yes, I used tremmapping.pbwiki.com.  Maybe I'm just unlucky  ;)

Heres what i used to instantly get radiant to work   :police:

http://files.filefront.com/Tremulous+Macradiant+Installer/;8726808;/fileinfo.html
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just unzip which version of macradiant you have than run the script it gives you

I used macradiant 1.4 from the pbwiki than i downloaded ingars gtkradiant 1.5 for linux
and put the macradiant 1.4 app inside it... it sounds wonky i know but it worked  ::)

At one point I was in touch with someone making a GtkRadiant installer (for both 1.4 and 1.5) for Intel.

As far as I can see, MacRadiant will not work in 10.5. Macradiant will launch, but x11 wont.

I'm just mapping in 1.5 though BootCamp.

Okay, I've tried again, a time later, a brain cell wiser, and figured out what I had to do...

Single problem: All the links for the Trem.game folder are dead.

Also, X11 won't launch, the above posted link gives me the front page and I'm just way too lazy to click 'search'.

Any ideas?

I have a fair few folders floating around that might be what you need. If you tell me what you expect to be inside it, I might be able to track it down for you.

If I don't reply for like a week then PM me because I never normally look in the mapping section :P

Would that be tar and feather or what?
Anyway if you going to have a computer at least get one thats worth your money that means no dells, macs, or anything connected to windows vista(except xp).

Here's a top three geek tips from a professional (ie, I get paid to do this crap) geek:

1) Don't listen to forum weenies who whine that one thing is teh sux0rz and something else is teh r0x0rz, because they're probably speaking directly from their rectum.
2) Learn some of the basics of all of them, so you make an informed decision, and get what fits your needs the most
3) Get whatever does what you want it to do for a price you can afford

Lizards: I suggest you stop spamming a thread with uninformed (and uninformative) drivel, unless you suddenly know how to fix Radiant on Mac OS 10.5.

Glunnator: You say X11 won't launch; did you do a clean install of 10.5 or an upgrade and install?  I had a few issues with it myself, but things work now.  Try opening Console and starting X11 by hand, see if you see some xorg errors float by in there (in my case it would "start", then crash quietly, and launchd kept trying to restart it every 10-15s).

Nearly everything works here, trem, gtk, other random stuff, etc.

Macs and Dells are actually worth the money, in my opinion.
The problem is, Macs are pretty expensive, but I find have a somewhat higher quality, and a much higher longevity. (Check G5 Imac resale prices on eBay).
Dells, on the other end of the spectrum, are know for el-cheapo prices, and el-cheapo quality.

Then again, most free operating systems trump Windows hands-down. But not many (i.e. none) free OS's for Macs... Except via boot-camp (maybe?)

The code changed in X11 from 10.4 (tiger) 10.5 (leopard) so most of this doesn't work on newer macs ( i.e. mine) .... now what? ???
I give up.
