OMG yuo guys are ripping of NS!
yeah, just thought I'd let you know
(not directed @ you Overflow, just in addressing everyones concerns about NS):
First, I don't understand why everyone thinks we'd be ripping off NS for this feature. Its a common place scene in quite a few alien movies.
Secondly, who cares about NS? It wasn't the first game of its type, it doesn't have a stake to every feature it possesses. Its developers aren't the ones giving us shit for having a similiar themed game, its the NS community hate squad (who I could really give two rats asses about). And in reality, only a select few of them are trying to goad us.
My feeling is we're dodging a feature that would be really tactically fun to have due to it being featured in NS. The NS community hate squad wins when it makes us this paranoid of getting backlash. We're getting schooled by 13 year olds. Fuck that. The only way we could risk valid criticism is by making a shitty mod. But we're not. Whats next, we can't have buttons that open doors?
Why let the NS community hate squad dictate our actions? When the next fun marine vs. alien game comes out (regardless if its by the NS guys or some new development team) everyone of those NS fan boys will be like crackwhores at a rock convention about it. Even if it stole every feature but made it *better* no one would care. NS will still be fondly remembered as a great mod, but I bet no one will complain to the new dev team about how its a 'rip-off'.
The only reason some of the NS community is even spouting that shit right now is because we haven't shown our work. They have to judge by screenshots and a few scraps of description over what Tremulous is. They don't want anything to topple NS, it would crush their favorite game and hurt their egos for supporting it.
Well, fuck em. Fuck those NS players who try to trash us. Props to the NS players who see Tremulous as an addition they can play for free and have fun with. We're not competing, theres no reason for PR smoke and mirrors and feature x missing while feature y is implemented.
If its cool, lets put it in.
