How do you view map "blueprints"...
« on: October 05, 2006, 09:08:18 pm »
Is there a program I can use to open the map files for Tremulous and get a bird's-eye view, or blueprint, if you will, of the map? Sort of an overhead view of all the corridors, etc. for all the maps I have? I think that this would be very useful for strategic planning during maps, to have a schematic of the current map on your desk and tactically plan your team's next move. Thanks in advance!

Okay, I have that, so how do I open the map files? I mean do I select "Quake", "Quake II", etc. on that menu when you first open it up? Sorry if this is noobish, but I can't get it to open the file.

quake 3 could work, i don't know. But most mappers follow these directions.

http://tremmapping.pbwiki.com/GtkRadiant1_5-Win32

After which you will also be able to open the maps and look or even edit the maps.

Quake 3 doesn't work, tried that.

Followed the steps at that link, tremulous disn't show up on the list. Tried several times, got nothing.

Any pointers?

Without any specific errors we don't know where to start. You extracted all zips into the correct directory and there is no previous install present?

Correct. Everything done right, nothing related to Tremulous or GTKRadiant installed twice.

As for errors, there aren't any in my understanding, its just that I followed the steps at that site and got nothing, as in, no "Tremulous" on the drop-down menu, and I tried to open the Tremulous maps with every option possible and couldn't open them. Tell me what to look for and I'll find it, if you can.

I think it's related to the trem.game file if you can't select it. Did you change the example paths to your own and put it in the GtkRadiant-1.5/games directory? If you can post what's inside your trem.game file.

Not the best solution, but might help ya :)
Start a /devmap, use /noclip and go up as much as you need/can.
Take a screen
wuala!

I did that, and tried to do a map for guides and stuff, but i got bored and dumped the "project"  :eek:

Tutorial works as long as you remember to put in the correct path where marked and remove the "path to" part ;).

Okay, I tried uninstalling GTKR 1.5.0, and downloaded the v. 1.4.0. Still nothing, even when I followed the specific tutorial for that version. Here's what's in the trem.game file I created:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" standalone="yes"?
<game
name="Tremulous"
enginepath="C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew (Admin)\My Programs\Tremulous"
gametools="C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew (Admin)\My Programs\Tremulous/radiant-1.4/"
basegame="base"
engine="tremulous.exe"
gamename="tremulous"
shaderpath="scripts/"
/

*Note, there are ">" after the "?" and last "/"*

That is located in my GTKRadiant-1.4/games directory. Is there something wrong with that one? also, if more info is needed, just tell me and I'll get it.

Strange. Mine is 1.5 and looks like this

Code: [Select]

<xml>
<game>

Try formatting it the same and changing the path. A lot of the stuff in it is unneeded iirc but it doesn't hurt.

I'm not sure if this works in Tremulous, but I map for another Q3 based game, and the command in that game is

/developer 1
/generatetracemap

Which will put a mapname_tracemap.tga in your gamedir/maps

Its basicly a height map.
