Ok, the single best game of tremulous I've ever played started out as a two on two match: Me and Phreak (who sometimes wears the Nex tag), versus Tremma and I believe Kobra. It took place on Tremor. So early on, I'd say maybe ten or fifteen minutes tops, we goon the base and manage to take about everything out. I see Tremma running away as he slips down to the basement but by that time I'm tyrant and cannot follow. Had I done so, I would not have been able to get back up since there was no dretch on the team, and Tremma would of course had immediately climbed the ladder back up.
I go back to human base and take out the reactor in an attempt to reach the other human hiding behind it - despite Phreak warning me not to give them the chance to rebuild. Then I went back to hunt down the survivor, and for a moment I thought we had won. It wasn't until my roomate asked me why the game wasn't ending that I noticed the humans must have rebuilt somewhere.
We run to the crate room as fast as we can, but it's too late. Three or four turrets are up and we simply can't destroy them and heal faster than they can rebuild them. By this time it was two against three, so base raids were even harder, despite the fact that we could literally stay safe ten feet away from them behind a wall. We might have been able to penetrate the base had they not reached stage two ten minutes later. From that point on it was all downhill.
Now you have to understand, we continuously attacked for a long time, as fast as our alien bodies could handle without dying, but it was no use. Later on more people joined each team and the game was more of a 6v6. Finally, we feed them to stage three and they start attacking the overmind. From here it's still roughly even, until Tremma raids the base. Now the sick thing is, Phreak told me to stick around and defend, but I instead left to search the underground tunnels as adv goon for Tremma. I find him outside alien's front door, but I had forgotten that adv goon is too big to fit through the opening! It was too late.
And yet despite this, Phreak managed to rush the armory damaging it considerably, and I managed to finish it off. So neither team could advance beyond their simplest forms, in stage three and sudden death! I suppose this is a situation that aliens cannot win since dretches can't kill spawns, but at the time I thought we had a reasonable shot of holding our own.
"There's no way they can get our spawns in time", I think to myself, just as I die and am shocked to find that there's only one egg left. I spawn in it and am immediately killed. I race to spawn again but the egg is destroyed seconds too soon. Eventually, only one alien is left alive - a maurauder - and two minutes are on the clock before the timelimit. Every teammember is beside himself with anxiety - I for one chose not to become a spectator, so every twenty seconds or so I'd see the maurader race through our base and leave the other side, trailed by three or four riflemen and screaming all the way. It was quite funny and scary at the same time.
Timelimit hit. The best game I've ever played ends in a draw. But it is the single best-deserved draw there ever was. None of this game-called-on-account-of-campspam crap, but a real, legitimate match.
A big thanks to my fellow Nexers - Phreak and Tremma - for the game.
