we need gore.

default is set to 0

0=No gore (nothing)
1=medium gore (blood decals on walls)
2=all gore (blood decals and a model particle system)

gore on map dissapears after 10 to 15 seconds

use the same system ass bullet hole decals

and Func_destructable that spawn another model paricle system

So this requires more content than code? As in gib models and decal graphics.

On the subject of model particles (aka gibs), one aspect of many other games that have them is that the gibs just don't look like parts of what they came from - the playermodel disappears and is replaced by a load of generic meaty models - squash someone under a fire door in half-life for a definitive demonstration of this.

Of course implementing model-specific gibbage would require alot of content - many gib models for each class (e.g. when you blow a tyrant up you'd expect to see it's head, claws and legs as well as blood and internal organs) I guess heads, legs etc. could be snipped from the model then retextured with blood splats?

Anyhoo, some decal & particle ideas:

1. Blood decals on players (difficault because collision box/model geometry is different?)
2. Particles for bleeding players, like that of bleeding alien structures but perhaps in short bursts of smaller particles to simulate blood spurts with each heartbeat, for humans at least (aliens have hearts? peristaltic blood vessels?). These could leave trails on the floor but the chase asisstance this gives might raise balance issues?

Blood decals on the walls sounds good.

More particles might cause problems for those who are running trem on low fps on beforehand.

About the gibs, i dont think so. Do you thing a tyrant would be that badly mangled by pulse or machinegun fire, or even luci fire? they are pretty tightly armored with all that carparace.

as for dretches, dunno, they look nice, dead as they are.

but there could ofcourse be some variation in corpse graphics...

for example, the humans should be abe to fall one way or another (if they don't already do so) maybe a bit dismembered if they were, say swiped by a tyrant, but not bitten by a dretch. so, the aliens  (smaller ones) should be abit messed up after walking into a fully- charged luci, or a nade.)

of course none of these are necessary....

but it would be fun.

All sounds ok, but i wouldn't use it... too distracting.
What about the aliens? They got light-greenish bloodstuff right?
Hm, i'd like to see that on walls :P

Sure thing. You'll be a real-life concept model, I'll take photos, and who volunteers to shoot? :D
If my answer to your problem doesn't seem helpful, it means I won't help you until you show some effort to fix your problem yourself!

I would take any change that makes dead dretches and other dead aliens easier to differenciate from live one. I have been shot in the back a few times by my fellow teammates who passed a corner, spoted a dead dretch ( one that I kill myselfs seconds earlier ) and shot out of reflex into it, or rather, into me of course :)

...how...? A dead dretch is on the floor, right? so how do they....? Have they got rubber bullets that bounce off the floor?   coooooooooool

Well, we do not have ricochet yet, but we have stray shotgun pellets, lucy blasts gone wrong etc ...

It is worse with bigger aliens though.

That would be cool, it would require that no weapons be hitscan, just realy realy fast. It probably won't happen for a while though.

Not really, you can get ricochet working with hitscan weapons fine too.

Except hitscan weaps would have infinite ricochet range unless they added specific stuff to fix that.

Specific? Nothing more specific than projectile objects :) After all, why should you prevent infinite ricochet for hitscan weapons and not for projectile weapons? In the first case, you probably get an infinite reccursion error, and in the second ( both ) case, you get something rather ugly, stupid and spam friendly :)

I think it's a fine idea for the opposite situation: I've failed to shoot at the dretch just sitting there on the floor because, in my mind, it couldn't possibly be alive.

Thankfully that's always a noob, because the psych factor of being so clearly out in the open is nothing compared to actually dretching, but it's still incredibly annoying.
