Hopefully here in the next few days  I'll clean up the source so it actually makes sense to people and release it all. In the meantime.. we're doing nightly stats on the beer garden @ http://72.36.180.26/

hopefully in the next few days I'll pull it together enough for a release in it's current state...hopefuly there are some folks who are a bit bettter at (regex) code than I am...

The code is an utter mess right now.. give me a few days and I'll post up something for everyone..

On a side note... I've been talking with some folks and chat logs are on option on the stats software... some folks think it's a bad idea, while others think it's great..  The option displays ALL chat to the web.   Which some seem to dislike.... any opinions on this option.. I'm pretty torn personnally.

Well, I imagine someone could be playing Trem windowed, and couild have their browser open and see what the opposite team is saying. If you really want to, maybe you could delay the chats from displaying by about 5 minutes or so?

Ranking the players with the average number of kills/deaths per match isn t a good idea...Someone coming 5 min before the end of the game will screw his own stats.

You should rank according to the time played (since its also logged by the server). Of course a late joiner will have trouble killing S3 people, but that wont affect too much his ranking (since a full game will be worth 12 times more than the 5 min one).

As for the chat logs issue...What is the point ???? Who will read entire chat logs ???? for what purpose ??? Its not like its really interesting..."decon reactor, building reactor, omg human campers, owned, gg..." Really i dont see whats the point of adding them. If some people doesnt wanna the whole chat logs to be posted, since its utterly useless, you shouldn t add them.

Also, you might want to speak to DASPRID, you released its own stats system. Might be useful to share your experience and troubles (for example yesterday he was trying to tackle the problem of colored nicknames on IRC), and maybe merge your codes ? Having 2 stats systems seems a bit too much for one game.

its bad though. cos if u have a really crap game then the stats will lie. and it also depends on the people u r playin against, as u might be playin against noobs or pros so u will either die or get loads of kills. therefore the stats cant be correct

Additionally, I will sometimes dretch out to bsuits to give grangers time to rebuild defenses, (especially on atcs).  I get killed quickly and easily, but the silly bsuits waste much time (and ammo) trying to lucy a wallwalking dretch(and teamates!)  I just keep on going out.  Sure it gives them money, but I usually end up with a couple hits and evols and, more importantly, the trappers are then all in place :-D

What I mean to say is that tracking these things is misleading and I wonder if it can negatively impact the game.  Take the fact that some clans allow membership based on kill counts.  So now you have a contingent of trem players that shoot ONLY for kills, and don't care for the much more important teamplay.

Perhaps you can extrapolate or track how many times a players team has won/lost?

Please take a moment to read how the stat are currently working before posting.. thanks...

Ranking players is always a difficult thing, especially with class based games such as Tremulous. This ranking only reflects points (kills). Unfortunately, this sort of ranking method doesn't allow much for dedicated builders.

The formula used to come up with the ranking is based on highest average score per map, Number of matches played to finish and total time connected. Ideally this way those who only visit the server for a few games still have a chance to get ranked.

To get on this list You *do* have to finish at least two games to the end of the match, and have a total connect time pretty close to the average connected time. A Formula for tied averages is not coded in yet -- so the order of tied people will be somewhat random, in the future ties may be based on number of matches played. I'm sure I'll continue to revise this methodology as the BeerStat progresses.

If it's not good enough please write something better so that I can post for the beer garden.. I would truly appreciate it.

I did read the previous postings, and I didn't mean to belittle the work you have done as I for one do actually appreciate it.  I guess I didn't mean to refer just to your stats program, but the overall mindset of kill counts and how it affects actuall gameplay.  The Schrödinger's box aspect of it, I guess you could say.

My response was to get anyone writing stats pages to take such things into consideration, but it was also to vent.  I would like to write a stats page, but find myself to be severly underqualified  :) at this time.

Are the stats based only on the payer name? If that's so, it means anybody can wreak the stats of someone else by using it's name. I'm sure you wont like getting the "most TK and decons" award when you join you favorite server after a few days pause.

Of course not IP! Some people do not have a fixed IP you know :)

I see 2 ways to do it. The GUID/CD-Key way, and the account way.

The account way is to associate the stats to a user name/password pair. Only it's that users do not need to find a unique user name as long as the password isn't the same :) That's how UT did it. The user name has no relation at all to the name showed ingame of course.

And the second way it to link the stats to the GUID.

You'll note that both ways requires a client side modification to work.

Is there a reason it starts over nightly?  I'd like to see how many of each type of alien I've killed in my BG career.  America's Army has some cool stat tracking like that (although you have to sign up for it).

It is easy to wreck stats.. guid needs to be in the logs a bit more though before it could be workable

In just toying around UnnamedPlayer is logging some serious hours..  I hacked around that a bit to exclude UnnamedPlayer here and there.. weapons and more alien stats are forthcoming when I can put some time into them.

I'm not going to have a chance to do to much for a week or 2 so I wrote a really terrible readme and posted it up with the source.

There are both windows and *nix files in there.. should run on mac just fine too.

Grab it here.. but dont laugh at my bad code.. lol

It seems to me that the stats are kinda non indicative of real skill. The results are based more on attendance and luck.

Alright, after only 2 matches in server last night I am ranked highest. :D   That can't be right because I'm pretty bad at this game compared to most.
