I have an idea, if anyone wants to make the map...
« on: October 21, 2006, 07:15:00 pm »
I recently thought up a map idea (I have a link to a blueprint of it) and am too lazy, as well as inexperienced, to actually make the map. It is rather complex, probably for larger servers withmore players, and has an extensive network of underground tunnels usable by both teams running between various rooms. I have the link here to a blueprint.

Beware, this idea is probably geared to a very experienced mapper, and has a long development time in store. If you're out of mapping ideas and want something to work on over winter (or winter break for the students like me), here you go. A full list of details, features, and ideal environmental textures/lighting is included in the image. Please post your comments, suggestions and whatever here! Thanks for taking a look at my idea, I hope someone can map it out and release it for use (with a little credit to me for the idea, at least)[/url]

First a design consideration, you can't make a distinction between naked humans and the battlesuit, you just can't mappingwise. Second consideration is the fact that the underground section doesn't have a real use until s3 and thus the main routes will be the 2 outer ones with the inner ones serving the team who has the advantage. Until someone maps it a true feeling however can't be defined.
I’m busy. I’ll ignore you later.

Actually you can...just oblige human to crouch and battlesuit cant pass...lets say you have a corridor and at the entrance something horizontal in the middle high enough to prevent people from walking/jumping upon it (even with a help of someone else), but that allows a human to go under it by crouching or using a jetpack

If you have an idea for a map, it is best to work it out yourself.

Well, see, that's the problem; I'm a newbie to making complex maps, if I knew how to actually make that myself, by all means I would. But I just lack the required knowledge to do the "dirty" work, as it were, of actually creating the map. I have the ideas, just not the experience to make them a reality.

Long, narrow, straight corridors are bad for bugs.

Make sure you keep that in mind.

You will never get there unless you start trying. Just start toying around with the editor. It can never be any worse that some of the maps released for Tremulous, now can it?

Well, I followed the advice and got my hands dirty; I followed Bubba's tutorial, and got started with my map. So far, so good. If you guys want to see what I've got so far, just lemme know how to upload it so y'all can take a look at it. I've even got the sloping and texturing down, but I have one question;

How do you make doors that open like in all the other maps? This is really bugging me...

Oh, duh. I didn't see that Bubba had a door tutorial, but I just now found it. I had a long day at school, being caught between a "Little Miss Perfect" mall rat rat who likes me and the down-to-earth, tell-it-like-it-is chick who likes me having a fight over who gets to go out with me. Long story short; Mall Rat goes to nurse with bleeding nose, while the hawt regular girl goes home early and just told me after school that she won't be back in class for the rest of the week. Which is just tomorrow, since we're out of school Friday for Parent-Teacher conferences.
Nobody told me that Junior High school would be so cool :)

Uhh...okay...that's...weird.

ANYWAY, on topic, I followed that tutorial and for some reason the textures are getting all messed up; I select the brush to be textured, but I click on the texture and it shows a corner of the texture filling up the entire brush, instead of the texture being resized to fit the brush. Help?

turned into me finding out from the mall rat that me and the hawt girl are going out, which I didn't even know about. But, like I said, she is, like, SUPERLY HAWTNESS with a perfect, I mean, oh, perfect, body. You know, perfect chest, butt, the works 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I am soooo popular now that me and her are official :)

It's not just about looks, we really have a lot in common. We're both into the same kinds of sports, hobbies, etc. yet we have a good amount of diversity between us. The looks are just an added bonus to a potentially strong relationship. :D 8)

Good luck with the mapping.
