I think it's just plain stupid to ban because of the crosshair.

If that is really the "smokey" I can remember, the one that is on a lot of shitlists, then it does not surprise me to see him whining here.

Where was it that the crosshairs got defined as a cheat? I did not yet see any concludent anouncement, just some bitching about it, mostly from players that have trouble playing as an alien...

no, i dont belive i know you, anyways using a crosshair is an unfair advantage. Iv asked the devs if they think it warrants a ban and im awating a reply.

Just read my last post on the other whine thread about this subject. Even Timbo says it doesn't give you any advantage. Sorry but it seems that its only Smokey and Lava who call it a cheat, and last time I checked they aren't the Tremulous gods.

What i find more disturbing then the actual use of the crosshair(agreed it won't help an experienced player that much, little advantage maybe otherwise you wouldn't use it) is the fact that it was used in a clanmatch.

Where do you draw the line for what are allowed modifications in a match?

Seperately, all the HUD menu-files are controlled by a client-side non-cheat-protected CVAR, again indicating the CVAR is meant to be customized, meaning the HUD files are meant to be customized.

So any changes i can think of to non-cheat-protected CVAR's(whatever the hell they are ) are not considered cheats? If i could find a way to make pink tyrants and get it to run on a pure server it would be 100% non cheating?

if it's not cheat protected, it's fair, there is no way to make pink tyrants by modifying cvars, and by suggesting that there was a way to do that, you show that you don't really understand how this works, the q3 hud was designed to be modified, even if you're playing on a pure server, if it wasn't, there would be about 5 ways (according to wolfwings, i haven't looked myself, but i can think of at least 2) that the devs could have forced you to use the default hud, but they didn't. how is a clan match any different from a regular game anyway? there is nothing preventing the other side from using the same hud if they think it will help them. just like binds, if one side chooses to make buy/evo binds, and the other doesn't, it doesn't make the match unfair in any way.

I'm pretty much with everyone about it not really being a cheat..
Because.. i think we've debated this before and come down to that same conclusion.. I believe even timbo has said directly it isn't really a cheat.
I don't have it enabled myself, and was a little bewildered to see it isn't actually where I thougt it would be.. apparently I over estimate a bit... but yeah.. .. puma go out into a field and flail yourself for being bad!

Heck, I'm semi-new and I've played my fair share of games. Since its accessable to anyone who's willing to take the time and mess with coding its not really a cheat. If its a clan match and one side doesn't use it and the other does even though the one not using it is fully able to use it then its their choice. Besides the aliens attack radius isn't limited to the crosshair its bigger so it really doesn't matter if you got one or not, its not gonna make you better.

In short: Crosshairs can not be used for cheating. Ever.

This is crazy, honestly anyone whos ever played scoutzknivez in cs knows the spitball in mid of screen trick, i used to use it and eventually didn't need it.  Only reason no crosshair doesn't bother me is i got used to it.  Best way to learn without a crosshair is without a crosshair.  If someone wants one  say let them have it.  However us players who dont need one will always know, we know where the middle of our monitor is lol big whoop.
