Actually, poto, the overmind is fine there. The 2 doors you see are the only 2 doors there.

Mmmmmm outside bits! Mmmmmm pipes! Cool map

But.....
When you go through the vent into the air shaft with the large fan, the lower of the two grilles seems to be noclip, you just fall straight on to the fan. It also has a large X-shaped shadow across the middle that overlays the transparent parts.

Yeah, I...um...noticed that too

I fixed it by adding a metalclip and a light. Apparently transparent brushes do NOT allow lights to pass thorugh, resulting in the shadow.

I've fixed both problems for beta7

Also the grill above the fan is noclip.  This will make for an unbeatable base for A or H as the vents are too small for and alien above mari and acidtubes prevent any human from using jetpack to get to the top.

So the grill should be closed or the vents made larger.

Killer map though cant wait til beta7

Thanks supertanker!

On of the vents is larger, a normal Dragoon (not Advanced) or Battlesuit can walk in through there.
Perhaps a clip brush for the fan and a ladder is needed.

Yea... the fan is weird.  First of all, you can get stuck under it, which is never good.  Second, an alien base there is pretty much invincible

Awesome map, though  :D

Beta 7 has all these probelms fixed. You weren't SUPPOSED to get below that grate in the first place ;) And that vent was supposed to be bigger

Mow there is a cooridor large enough for a Tyrant to get into the fan area (with two playerclipped grates, now :) ), and you can build there (only in the fan area). But I made it so you can't build in the ladder area. (It would be near invincable for humans)

Also if you're stupid enough to evo to tyrant in either vent room I made it so you can esacpe.
Dragoons/maras/adv dragoons are going to like the ledge I put in the drop down to the lower core, you can jump up to the ladder room now.

Here's the door to the fan area. It leads to the pump room. Also, I slowed the fan http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/supertanker13/ventroom1.jpg

Almost done for beta 7

I've been experimenting with more shaders and stuff and tried to make some light 'cones'

What do you think, too large?

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/supertanker13/lightcone1.jpg

This is the effect I was aiming for, and got. Only problem is the slight lines at the edges.

Here's what I had in mind for the light effect. It is simply a cube brush with nodraw on three sides and a special shader texture on the other three.

Now I just have to decide if I should put it on the 45 or so smaller lights in the level, which would be a pain.

the volumetric lighting used in your ss looks off as only 2 of the four required sides for the effect seem to have been given the shader.

Yeah I kinda noticed that too

It'll be fixed in beta 7 after I decide if I should add anything else to the map.

A reason to use the shielding area (that spinning core area) other than on the hunt for the last human/dretch? ;)

Ugh, sorry my life went down the drain for a bit there...

Okay, Gamma core is still being worked on. I have two new(er) screenshots for you.

Ramp leading to human base
http://levelzone.net/hallwaydown.jpg
Hallway leading to human base
http://levelzone.net/humanhall.jpg

The only problem so far is that the hallway leading to the human base is huge and empty (if cool looking) so I'm open to suggestions about what to put there to block fire (maybe more generic "brick" devices or something)

And as usual, any other suggestions....

It just takes practice.
A lot of practice.

Here's my solution to the long unbroken hallway:

With more of my fancy-smancy volumetric lighting.

After a slight, um, delay, I'm almost done with the final version of this map. It's about as nice as I can make it without re-designing it from scratch.

Unfortunately, as some of you may have noticed, my web host isn't up any more. Would anyone mind hosting the file after I remember how to get it into a .pk3 again?

To get it into a .pk3, take your map, make a folder called maps and put it in there, then zip it, then rename the .zip file to "yourmap.pk3". I think. I'll host it, if you want. Beware, hella limited bandwith. (100gb / month)

All righty, it's done as map-gamma_core-final.pk3 and tested as well as I can without other people playing with me :P IE, I jumped down the shield gen shaft 100 times to see if I would die each time :D

Ugh, great, I forgot to correct something. Great, another hour long light compile....

The human base looks...somewhat cooler now and I tweaked the two reactors.

So...where should I upload this? Death On Ice, should I PM you?

Well, You can either just have }MG{ Host it; PM Tuple, Kevlarman, etc.

You can PM me and discuss it, or you can talk to Bricosoft people (Greudin) and have them host it.

I suggest just uploading it to some sharing site.
