dvd roms?
« on: November 05, 2006, 02:35:54 am »
Hi, I'm trying to buy a dvd rom and not the ones where you have to use screw drivers taking out the board and shoving the thing into the case.
And I've been looking for one that my teacher told me about, a USB DVD Rom drive. How much is it? Is it expensive? Would it be in Futureshop or Bestbuy?
Also, if it's too expensive, I have another question
is this for laptop only? Or is this just like the other USB drive(because it's too cheap)? Or is it one of those "shoving" drive?

mmm... maybe... sorry, I'm not really good with hardwares and stuff... I'm only pretty good with softwares...
but the one where only thing you have to do is connect (that's what I heard from my teacher) and not shove in to the case.

You want an EXTERNAL USB DVD-Rom drive... they do have them at bestbuy..  If it says ATAPI/IDE/SATA and looks like the one in the picture and says "Internal" Than that isn't what you want. Usually the top will be colored and not just metal like the one in the picture.

That is a standard 5 1/4" internal desktop drive. They can be used with a laptop if you use an external USB enclosure. Note that these also have an additional power supply as it and the drive draw more power than a USB port can supply.
