It'll never be eliminated completely. It's really an arms race against the captcha used and the spam bots being taught how to interpret it. If it gets significantly worse in the next week or so i'll look into changing it again. I guess the ideal situation would be to develop captcha that is specific to the Trem forums. As a general statement the less widely deployed a captcha is the less likely it is to be circumvented.

We could make the captcha a picture of a dretch or something from tremulous, and force users to name what appears in the picture.

Currently, few, if no, spambots could do that, espcecially if the pictures were brand new ones, taken from fresh screenshots, not the ones in the manual.

People would get it wrong and spell "drentch"

Why not just picture a "Turret"

Campers are more familiar with that anyway. :P

Well, I haven't seen any more spam yet. Unless some other moderator was faster than me and delete all in sight, I guess it must have been a lucky answer from their capcha solver :D

No, this is a stupid idea. Why? Because the bot will only have to answer at random and he'll have 1 chance in 4 to get the correct answer ;) And it is a bot so he can sign up a thousands of times per second if the server can handle it.
